Default Quick cooling system question....

Sorry for the BASIC quetion but I could not find the answer in the Hayes Manual or Car Manual last night (unless, like a bonehead, I missed it). What is the approximate amount mixture (i.e. coolant plus water) I will need to flush the cooling system on my 73 w/ 350sb?

Need to buy some at lunch and we are doing a coolant flush tonight at class.
Thanks
Shane

Won't you be using a special flush mixture made especially for this? It would have the mixture right on the can. Coolant is getting more expensive. I can't imagine why you would buy a couple of gallons just to flush it and toss it away. Also, unless your car is really, really dirty, you could just flush with a constant stream of fresh water. This would remove any loose deposits. Suspended particles and chemicals should come out with your previous coolant. Just my .02...

Sorry, I mistated what I am doing....Not a full flush, etc, more of a drain old/refill with new so changing the coolant. So I am trying to figure out what the approximate refill capacity is.

Ahhhh....

I just refilled my system from empty, however, I have an aftermarket radiator which is slightly larger. It seemed to be about 4 gallons.

I'd bring 2 gallons of antifreeze, and two gallons of distilled water. Add one gallon of each, then add 1/2 gallon of each, then 1/4 of each, etc., until it's full. That way you get closer to a 50/50 mix. It's better from a freeze standpoint to have somewhat more coolant than water.

Good luck -
