I have been trying to quit since last new years, and so far I’m a failure.

no your not, nicotine is a very addictive drug; some say even more addictive than crack cocaine. my father smoked for almost 50 years; the stroke and open heart surgery finally broke him of the habit.

Default very glad I stopped.

Hi, I stopped,,, a million times, but the most recent time has been for just about 3 1/2 years. This time I stopped by not lighting one up when I got the urge,,, told myself to wait for 10 minutes and if I still felt the need to do it,,, light one up , but most times then not I'd delay the second urge ,,, just trying to test myself on how badly I thought I needed to light up, I went from 3 packs a day to one pack a week, and then weaned myself off until when I lit one up it was so stale tasting that I put it out immediately. Dont get me wrong,, I still have the urge but figure I've been good for so lnog and can finally taste what food tastes like and breathe without gasping and choking that it's gotten easier to fight the urge, besides the house and the car smell so much better, and besides that the price they are getting for them today is outrageous,,, sorry for the rant,,, but if ya really wanna quit,, you can,,, just set a goal, a realistic one and surprise your self. Good luck. Peace,,, Craig

Gave up the lung darts about ten years ago, happy I did. Takes a long time to quit and it is a little tough but it can be done. You gotta wean yourself off them.

I went from pretty strong cigs to ultra lights in a couple of months. I am not recommending this but I went on the patch and I used to tear one in half and still smoke a few cigs a day until I was down to 2 or 3 then you can say pretty much stop. Kinda hard for the first year but it gets easier and after a few years you don't even think about having a smoke

I used to smoke about a pack a day , I quit the day my first child was born.. funny how you look at life at a whole new perspective when you have a new life to look after, now 19 years later... still smoke free.

Been off them since June! Still VERY difficult sometimes, but I'm doing it 1 day at a time. I used the Nicoderm CQ clear patch.

Default cold turkey

Quit cold turkey 7 years ago after smoking for thirty. I wonder why in the hell I ever did after I got clear of the smokes. Take it from an older guy the sooner the better. People around you will like you for it as well. What motivated me to quit was knowing Tobacco companies were putting ammonia in the smokes to make the nicotine more addictive. So it was like someone was out to kill me. I could prevent this. That and I had a bad smokers cough. Enough preaching, Just Quit.

Ya, don't give up. Like seaboltm, my father smoked for years. Was with him when he passed, gasping for air, after years of being sentenced to life carrying an Oxygen tank every where so he could breath. Not to bring you down, but it's a horrible think to do to yourself and your family.

Like Nike says JUST DO IT!!! It's very hard but you can do it. I am smoke free for 15 years. My mom asked me to quit for Christmas one year so I just threw out the whole carton of Kools sitting on the seat of the pickup and I have never looked back since.
If you quit stay away from other smokers till your sure your over it.

I’m going to try again this weekend. I signed up for a men’s league hockey team, I figure if I get my self active it will help get me to stop with the cancer sticks.

After smoking 18 years, sometimes 3 packs a day, I quit cold turkey. Its been 22 years and glad I'm free of the monkey. Just do it one day at a time and stay busy. It gets easier until finally free. Don't wait another day, throw them away and look forward to a healthier future. Take a look here for some help http://www.quitsmoking.com/ Another annual "Great American Smokeout" is coming up on the calendar.

I have never smoked after seeing my parents smoke for most of their lives. My Dad just quit one day after 40 years of smoking and never smoked again. He's now 82 and going strong. My Mom quit about 3-4 years after my Dad. They both said they couldn't believe how everything started to taste and smell great after quitting.

Never give up. Just quit. Take a look at someone's lung that died from smoking and you'll be motivated to quit.

It's easy - All you have to do change your life style that has anything to do with smoking. Like if you start off your day with a cup of coffee and a smoke. Replace it with something time consuming like using a juicer to make a fruit smoothy drink. If you smoke in your car with a coffee on the way to work don't take coffee in the car. Cut out contact with people that smoke. Don't go to the bar. Don't even go in smoke filled houses or rooms. If you have an even drink and smoke cut out the drink.

don't have any cigarretts around to even temp you.

It's the first 72 hours that are the hardest. Once your body and nose clears out you will realize how dirty, smelly, and disgusting smoking really is.

Us X-smokers probably hate the smell worse than people that have never smoked. You would not believe how much time is wasted smoking and aquiring smokes. The time just thinking about having your next smoke!

Every day put the same amount of money you would spend on smokes in a big jar that you can see every time you walk back and forth in your house. After the first month dump that money out and celabrate some how. I quit 18 years ago and have NEVER even had another puff.

IMO it's women that don't have any will power.

Quit in April 2004 ... but have had one cig since ... on New Years Eve !!!

Only way that worked for me was quitting at the same time
that the wife wanted to quit. We finally did it. How can you
quit when your spouse is right there every night smoking ??
It takes support from those around you, too.

You can do it !

Funny story: bought my 75 vette from a friend that smoked.
When I got the vette, it came with a brand new chrome ashtray.
I installed it, and then proceeded to use it. The guy looked one day
and said "That ashtray wasn't supposed to be used !".
I replied: "It is now !".

I'm pretty sure there are still a couple butts in the tray.
I will lick it, if I ever get the urge again.

Scooty78 has got the right idea, a few trips north and south, couple of backchecks, add a break away, if your still alive you'll definetely want to quit.

Also think of it another way. The money saved can be used to bribe the spousal unit into another Vette or ???.

In dating myself, I quit when they got to a dollar a pack. I walk through an airport now past a vending machine and I think to myself, you need a small loan just to buy them.

Good Luck
