Just changed the oil on my 75 and it's stored for the winter. Went to our car club banquet and we were discussing winter storeage. One guy suggested leaving the old oil in for the the winter is a good idea since old oil doesn't attact condensation.
I disagree, your thoughts ? We also discussed changing the oil again in the spring. Any thoughts on this , thanks.
i change mine ard halloween every year, just so happens i did it yesterday.castrol 10w40 is what i put in ,all it gets during the winter is a pull out of the garage, and a 1/2 hr run,,, in late spring it get dropped for 20w50 and this year it saw 1100 miles,i dont like keeping that weight oil in the winter, and the way i figure is its cheap insurance, keeping clean oil in the crank(try to get over 1100 miles in summer thou,,worked a lot this year)
Does it really matter ? The oil is only sitting in the oil pan
I'd leave the old oil in the pan and change oil before I start the engine after winter storage....
I also agree. If you don't have a lot of miles on the oil, just leave it in for the winter then change at least once a year in the spring. For me, mine is a DD except for the winter so I change my oil every 3K miles in the spring, summer & fall seasons. During the harsh NW Ohio winters, I start mine every few weeks just to keep the battery up. In the spring, I give her a new oil & filter change and start the odometer for the next 3K miles. I used to put Mobil 1 10W40 but decided that regular ole 10W40 Castrol is just as good, given that I change oil frequently and the oil pressure is not an issue.
