Can someone check and see if the rear bumpers are slanted to one another or straight across? I recently got the rear end fixed and dont remember my bumpers being angled at the rear edge with the outer side sections slightly more forward. I thought both rear edges run straight to each other.

They probably just need to be aligned better. They should be straight. If you got your rear end recently "fixed," a bracket or two may be bent. You can still buy all the brackets new. For instance Volunteer Vette is a forum sponsor.

I was surprised how much time it took be to align my rear bumpers (and front bumpers). I probably took two hours to get the rear bumpers and rear exhaust valance panel on correctly. Could do it a lot faster now, but there was a learning curve process.
I'm sorry to say, but I think you guys are all wrong or I didnt describe the situation correctly.
I went to the shop at lunch and looked at 5 or 6 68-72 cars with rear chrome bumpers and all had a slight angle to the bumpers.
Now let me make sure you know what I'm saying. If you were above the car looking down at the rear bumpers, and you tried to lay a staight edge across the most rear edge, both bumpers would not be nice and flat against the straight edge, but would touch the straight edge in the center of the car and taper slightly forward by about 3-5 degrees.

They should follow the contour of the body with pretty much even spacing along the way. You might want to try posting a picture if possible.

My bumpers are in their original location and they appear to be very, very slightly angled in toward each other......you be the judge....
I have owned my 68 since 1972 and my passenger side rear bumper also seems to have the slightest pitch up at the corner where it makes the 90 degree bend toward the front of the car by the side marker light.
I have checked everything and can't seem to correct it. Guess I'm not alone. Most people might not notice it but I do. The driver side is straight (horizontal).
