I mentioned that I hoped for the best in my transaction on an ebay sale.
I am very unhappy.
I specifically emailed the seller and he listed said that there were minor chips on the nose and bumper that were touched up... other than that nothing else flawed.
Problem... Both DOORS and REAR PANELS have rock chips and ABRASIONS on DOOR EDGES.
FRONT HOOD and FENDER SURFACES have WHITE SWIRLS that looks like BLEACH DISCOLORATIONS or DAMAGE TO THE CLEARCOATING of the PAINT.
CAR IS BEING MECHANICALLY CHECKED OUT and my mechanic said the engine sounds ROUGH... but he'll check it out for free.
An inspection is a reliable way of validating a seller's claims about a vehicle's condition. Most auctions in Calif are final with no "buyers" remorse....so when the "hammer" falls, you own it.....

$15,000 sounds a little high for a 1976 in my opinion.
I have heard enough of these ebay stories that I would not buy a car from them without looking at it first.
The ad says BEYOND EXCELLENT. Apparently that is not what you got. And as for those " ... There are original chrome factory-installed engine enhancements which make the engine look great...." what are those? The only thing I see is the stock distributor cover.
I have a 1976, L48..See the link below....I thought all L48's had the long based air conditioner??? Mine has it...this one doesn't! Anyone please correct me if I am wrong! Car in my opinion is NOT worth $15,000.00 . Bought my 76 off ebay 2 years ago and overpaid at $8,000.00.
Until eBay can have better control over the auctions, like some kind escrow account or other means of protection to buyers (and sellers), I would not buy a car from ebay without having it inspected first or, at least, not send any money at the end of the action until I could have the car inspected and matched to the claims made on eBay. Any fraud such as this should be reported back to eBay for them to be aware of these practices and see if they at least post a ruling about asking to "send non refundable deposit at auction end". Just my .2
I was searching for a nice restorable 70 roadster for over 2 years.
When you win an auction - you have to go to the car and inspect it during the – down payment due within 7 days period.
If the car is misrepresented - you don't buy it.
I went on multiple 1000 - 2000 mile round trip, with trailer, goose chases. The more goose chase experience I got the better my qualifying questions to perspective sellers became.
The car looks really nice from the pictures, I hate that you got screwed on the sale. I would have took a negative on my ebay account before I handed over that kind of cash.
His ad says "beyond excellent", that means it should be flawless. I think the seller is misrepresenting the car and I would not complete the transaction and I would notify e-bay as to why. Also, look at how he presented his ad, that should be a tip off: listing every item on the car like antenna and other items that all cars have, to make it look like it is loaded. I am surprised he didn't have steering wheel as an option in his little matrix on the bottom. Sounds like a screw job. Price is high also. Don't buy. Leave feedback regarding why to protect future potential buyers.
Never have seen a "perfect" used vette....that should have been the first clue....but buying a vette unseen is just beyond any rational thought in my mind...I only got burned once buying a used vehicle...I bought it in a hurry...Mercedes 190...ended up donating it to Father Joe....Only have purchased two new cars in 38 years...could only afford used...nothing beats "eyes on",and even then, you must be careful...
I may be wrong but I think if a product is misrepresented on e-bay you can contact e-bay and ask them mediate a solution. I also believe they have $20,000 fraud protection however it may be only if you used paypal. Hope this helps.
i bought both of my cars off ebay..
my 78 camaro- which i did get to see because i found it in driving range
and my 76 corvette.
the camaro was described on the add very well, with all the problems it had, and i never found very many things i wasnt expecting
the corvette was also described well, but with a lack of knowledge or maybe it was just an act. i flew down to san diego to look at the car, and pick it up. "mechanic said fluid levels are fine" we start the car, and i can barely turn it around the cul de sac. (no power steering fluid). "tires new", well she forgot to mention she put the same $%$@ing size on all 4 and the front ones grind the wheel wells. "l-82 corvette", maybe orginally but now its just a 350 rebuild.
i got the car on a rack and there was welding that shows it might have been in an accident
i did goto look at it, but i was still learning at that time what to look for
for $5,000 im still not that very dissapointed with it. seems about the right price for what i bought
in conclusion: ebay can provide you with sound transactions. but it seems people always wont mention a few things. these are the things you ask "is it really worth the hastle on trying to get my money back", and generally we can all tell what these kind of problems are.
i hope your car isnt in too bad of shape, althought as someone else said, 15,000 is a lot. look at the good things of the car also, before u look at all the bad
Take him to court. If the car is in the shape you mention, then you have plenty of physical evidence which is contrary to the way it is portrayed in the ad.
never buy from a guy who post his picture sitting in the car,he thinks hes a playboy, and along with that comes a story teller and thats what you got a big fat story!! go right to his house and demand a paint job or your money back . or two broken legs let him decide need help give a holler i hate a lier good luck

Oh, there's plenty of "remorse", just no recourse. Actually, the car looks pretty nice. Like that low mileage. If it only has a few chips the seller didn't disclose and the motor checks out OK, then you should just drive and enjoy it.

Early 76 has long compressor, late 76 has short compressor.
"Fraud" is when you wire money to Italy and get NOTHING. You paid too much for a 30 year old car sight unseen and don't like what you got. You may want to contact Montgomery County (Pennsylvania) District Attorney Bruce Castor. He has a better case than you do. Sorry you are unhappy with your purchase.

No, i SPECIFICALLY e-mailed him ti identify ANY flaws and he said he just slightly touched up the bumper from barely visible chips.
Otherwise i wouldn't bid 15,000....
There is chips on DOORS FENDERS REAR PANEL and ABRASIONS on PANEL EDGES in the DOOR GAPS.
There is ALSO DISCOLORATION over the ENTIRE HOOD AREA that looks like BLEACH was spilled over the ENTIRE HOOD.
I paid 15,000 for a "PERFECT, BEYOND EXCELLENT CAR." needs NO WORK on original paint.
Have you contacted the seller yet? If so, what was his response? Have you contacted your lawyer? Most lawyers are very practiced at not laughing at you when you get yourself in this kind of trouble.
