Check out the February 2006 Car Craft magazine. In there they have a picture of a corvette half shaft that was twisted in half by mostly stock small block at the dragstrip. The guy is a forum member but I cannot remember his forum name. He has a red 80 and his real name is Stephen Barthe according to the article in Car Craft.
Well, stock half-shaft will hold if you run street tire. I ran 400 hp with solid spicer U-joint without problem for 3 years. Any engine with slicks and manual trans will twist them. In my case, the excellent track preparation(really sticky), the slicks and my LS7 clutch pressure plate did the work.
Maybe I'm going to need new half shafts. I'm putting in a stroker and it will see some drag strip time. 500+ HP will probably do them in, the track is sometimes pretty prepped and sticky.
i just put 1/2 shaft safety loops under the 73 because i knew the engine was gonna get up there in the ponies and i dont like it when my 1/2 shafts looks like this----------------------------------------------------------------------------
