Default I Hate Ebay!!!

This is how much I hate ebay and ebayers. I put a Nin 64 game system on ebay for my son. Didn't what anything to do w/the sale but to please the wife put the game up for auction. A guy pays 70.00 for the game 2 controlers, a transfer pack & 14 games. Probility cost me $400. three Christmas's ago. Anyway guy buy's game Jim drops window crank on new painted hood looking for empty box (down to the glass, now need to repaint hood) and I mail the game to the buyer. To make a long story short paypal screws up and I ship the game to the buyer in good faith he will pay me.
Mean while this guy is a real A**hole and writes to paypal saying I ripped him off for a game he didn't receive but paid for. Paypal write's Bill and tells him he didn't pay for the game & it goes on like this for 2 weeks.
Yesterday Bill writes me (can't spell or put together a sentence to save his sole) and tells me the games broke & he's not paying for it. This is all in upper case and misspelled. I'm so mad about my hood I told him to keep the f**king game its on me. Oh and dat ting at da end of da coid is da plu and do need do plu inner wall outlite.

Sorry to hear about the hood, I feel your pain (have done simular things in the past will probably do them again in the future.) I bought a motocycyle part with Pay Pal in mid Novemeber, Dec 22 still getting the runaround from seller (I know someone offered him way more than I paid using Buy it Now) I went to Pay Pal and filed complaint after giving A**hole 5 days to give me shipping information. The seller's first shipping excuse was he sent the part to the wrong address, I said fine, send me tracking numbers on the wrong shippment and I will wait longer, no reply back. The second reply from him was he had several parts he bought not showing up (why is that my problem in getting a part he already owns?.) I then filed Pay Pal complaint on him, part was shipped 3 days later UPS 3rd day, I got part after Pay Pal came through but, I have heard simular Pay Pal horror stories such as yours, sellers were even required to reimburse buyer after providing shipping scans to Pay Pal (WTF is wrong with these people?)

"in good faith" without payment first! Most here on the forum, I would have no problem doing that, but ebay? Not a chance!

whats strange to me is that youd ship the system out before you got payment. ive sold and bought over 700 things on ebay so far and never once shipped before payment arrived, and never paid after an item arrived.

all in all, ive had good luck with ebay and only had a handful of problems with it.

Sorta...

Based on a user's feedback, I've shipped items pre-payment (and vice-versa).

How did PayPal "screw up"? Either you received the funds in your account or you didn't receive the funds in your account.

Amen! I was pretty new to the Forum and asked where to get a hard-to-find part (the vent/windshield wiper switch holder for my 76) when kdf1986 said he had noticed one in a San Jose junkyard that day. He went back, got it, then sent it to me and told me to send him a check at the same time (for exactly price he had paid plus shipping). I was completely blown away by his willingness to help and trust someone he had never met in person. That's when I learned what a great place this Forum is. I try to pay it forward as often as I can.

I thought that EBay sorted out these kind of problems several years ago. The horror stories I heard about people getting ripped-off on EBay caused me to stay very far away from them. Also, it figures that EBay and PayPal hooked up since PayPal's "customer service" was as bad as E-Gold's, which means non-existent. E-Gold is "Paying the Piper" for it now as the FBI is going after them.

That's good strategy. Gives guys like me a better chance not to be out-bid on things like original GM-boxed taillamp lenses ($30), radiator supports ($120), neutral safety switch ($12), rear-facia lettering ($30), etc.

Please, for your own peace of mind, stay away from E-Bay!

When selling on ebay: Demand money order and don't ship until bank says it's OK.

When buying: Never bid on item unless seller has atleast 50 in feedback and any negatives are benign. Also make sure the positives are for real auctions.

Follwoing the above I've always had good luck on ebay.

Always check the feedback and open a few of the feedback links to auctions that they have purchased or sold from. I like at least 30 feedback when buying something around 100.00. If I am spending 1000.00 they better have tons of feedback! No matter how much feedback its always a bit of a gamble. Never jump on a second chance offer unless the sellers emails you with the offer.

The first thing to look at is what they want for shipping. You see 30.00 items buy it now for 9.99 and the shipping is 25.00. Idiots!
Sorry about the hood! I would report the guy to paypal and they will lock his account. I just had mine locked because the item I shipped during Christmas took more than a week to get to the buyer! I had no control over the situation! The buyer got the package and released my account back to me. I almost quit Paypal after that.

There are some nice people on ebay you just have to know how it works

For about a month I've tried to get my hands on a Hartford Whalers jersey from the same guy. Apparently he's had quite a bit of them so I would just keep bidding. I emailed the guy one day and said I can never get to the auction before it closes to put in my final bid. (he was a west coaster in canada). After I emailed him he gave me a second chance bid with a buy it now option.

82 dollars later I got my Jersey

Ebay and PayPal is not unlike any other "business" transaction. If you know the system and how to use the tools of it you'll be as safe using it as anything else. Common sense has no bounds. Just like in any venture now, you have to watch out for the dark side and cover your own bases. And you really have no control over all the less educated folks who own computers now days or that you deal with in person in every day life. That alone doesn't mean they are not good folks.

No doubt Ebay is much harder to use now that is has become so massive and world-wide. And they certainly don't offer any personal service like they did at one time, and do have systems inadequacies they constantly try to up grade. But they themselves don't deserve blame for most problems, the people misusing the system does. Both still have their place if you choose to use them and take the time and effort to learn how to do so effectively.

Yes I have used Ebay from its start, and PayPal as well. I've had the run of the mill problems occasionally that's just part of using them just like in any other venture, but in the end it has always came out in the wash OK. Because of that I can't help but think that many who get burned are partly responsible for their own problems because they don't use the system fully or use good common sense.

None of this is meant to be a personal attack on anything written above by anyone, so please don't take it that way. This is just a general statement and my opinion, which I'm entitled to. Disagreement is fine with me too because using Ebay and PayPal or not really boils down to your own choice.
