The best I know, which is probably a little sketchy, is that the C3 is a Larry Shinoda creation. I know that in a corporate environment, it's really hard to say anyone person had complete responsibility for a design. That being said, I think folklore attributes the C3 to Shinoda. I'd be really interested if anyone can fill in some info about the C3 design. I think it's safe to say that Harley Earl was not a part of the design! He was active with the design of GM cars during the C2 era. The Earl car's were really spectacular.
Anyhow, I think the early C3's are truly beautiful cars. If I was one of those internet billionairs, I would recreate duplicates of the C3, but I'd make them about 4 inches longer and perhaps 4 inches wider. Four inches longer to get some convenient space for turbos.
PS: Larry later was hired by Ford. The Ford Mustang Mach I was one of his designs I believe. Shinoda design studios still exists to this day as far as I know.
Pontiac always seems to come back to the name Banshee. Remember the prototype for the last Firebird? That was also called the Banshee. That woulda been what, 90? 91? I vaguely remember them using it in a Knight Rider movie sometime around then too.
Sweet car. I guess Delorean got alot of flack for competing with his own team. They ended up using some sexy lines from the prototype for the C3 though.
David Holls was credited with toning down the Mako Shark body style that became the production version 1968 model. The Kamn tail became more subtle, the fender rises were cut down for vision purposes and the fastback design became a tunneled (sugar scoop) style with flat window for removal sakes.
i did a picture comparison a while ago...sorry if i didn't take the time to cut the cars out perfectly but it was to answer a past question here on the forum.
