Default Luggage Racks

How many of you guys have a luggage rack and like it?

The 76 Im getting has one. My wife thinks its cool, but Im not so sure. And Im guessing its going to cost a fair anount of money to fill those holes and repaint.

Thoughts?

I like chrome. I passed on a 72 because it didnt have the original motor. So the chrome on the rack is nice. But some guys on my personal forum are calling me gay for it.

I like the 6-hole pattern luggage racks better than the 8. The ones on early 76's were the 6-hole pattern I believe. My 76 is from January of that year and came with the 6-hole luggage rack.

The rack with pins was for T-top tie down, the one without was for the roadster. If I remember right, the same rack was used on the Camero, and the Firebird back in early 70's. And they are functional, carry lawn chairs to the car shows, etc on mine. Saves wear and tear. A useful device, expecially for the T-top. Works for coolers with liquid refreshment contained. zzzzzzzzzzzz

Had one on my first 73 Corvette and it was most useful. Could even carrying things with me on a trip.
Don't have one on my current 73 since I don't want to drill holes in a 30+ year old car.
I had the 6 hole rack and the t-top carrier worked on it. I think the 6 hole rack looks better than the 8 rack.

Default Luggage Rack

My 1971 came with the rack, factory option as I understand it. I don't have the tank sticker so I don't really know if it was added later. I see it as useful if we take any type of trip and unique to the C-3. Seems like a lot or work to remove it and fill the holes.

Mine is staying on the car!

My 1973 came with one too. I don't like it but I don't want to go through the trouble and expense to have it removed properly so it will stay for the time being.

Me too ... can't find any documentation right now.

I always used my luggage rack to carry my Ttops in heavy custom bags
and held on with a couple of small ratcheting tie-downs.

However, I LOVE the clean look of the rear deck without one.
The filled holes almost always come back to haunt their owner.

I have always preferred having a luggage rack on my C3. All five of our C3's have had racks. If I bought one without a rack, I would add it. Just my personal preference. IMHO, they are the finishing touch. OK, I have my Nomex suit on for those of you who don't like luggage racks. The luggage rack with roof panel rack was factory option V54 in 1977.
