Can you imagine a modified Corvette going for more than a NCRS vette at Barrett Jackson.

Think it torqued anybody?

Maybe this guy

..and to think it's all Barrett-Jackson's fault. It has to be, no other explanation.

I also found it interesting that some people think you would owe the NCRS something for just uttering their name, so watch what you say.

Dang it all I just typed it twice.

i hung out on the NCRS boards for a week or two before i found this place.
i think most of them were ready to rip my head off when they found out i intended to mod my 69 instead of restore it to factory spec.

while they were knowledgeable and were able to answer my questions, they wernt very friendly to any one that didnt have NCRS restorations in mind.

That's why I belong to NCCC Those NCRS guys are way to straight laced. Every little flaw that came off the plant floor they want it to show. Well let's face it, half of these imperfections, flaws, gaps in fit, or what ever else they find "original" were the result of poor quality control on the assembly line. No one would do it intentionally. So if I am going to spend the money to restore/mod a corvette - guess what I want it to look better coming out of the shop then when it went in.

There's several other choice tidbits I'd like to add here, but it's probably best to keep quiet...

I completely missed that car. $185k for an original owner 63 ZO6... I guess that is cheap... I guess.

and please spare me the big generalizations about "NCRS types." I have participated in several NCRS events, including national and regional meets, never had my bubbamobile judged, and everyone has been real nice and more than willing to share their knowledge, especially the 3 master judges that are fairly active on this forum (and there are many more than 3). There are probably a few pompous ahses in the group, but most are not. The point of the NCRS is the organization is devoted to the preservation of original corvettes and/or restorartion to being like original, so that is their thing and they are not fans of mods... ok?

Don't think I will enter the thread on the NCRS board, but it's not surprising that sellers invoke the NCRS name when the head judge does appraisals on the side.... not that I have a problem with that!

I tried the ncrs route--never ever ever ever again--took the LT-1 down for judging in 2004--got a 92.6 Second Flight rating--spent over $3,000 getting correct parts and hours and hours getting stuff working right--fiber optics etc. and fixing stuff they marked off----Well guess what---in 2005 I did much worse,I only got a little over 90. Things that were judged incorrect in 04 were found acceptable in 05 and vice versa---after all the work to get fibre optics working perfect they never even checked them in the tech part---just marked them OK.. And you want to call them "master judges" it is just a political bubba group that has has some success selling their mantra

Different strokes for different folks I guess. It's too bad that this guy is so opinionanted that anything not 100% original is a "resto-turd". Guys like him give other NCRS folks a bad name.

If someone want's to go NCRS then I say good luck to them, I respect them for their diligence and desire to preserve a piece of americana.

Personally I think upgrading/modding a car and having the freedom to use aftermarket parts is more fun and enjoyable. Going the NCRS route just seems to be a lot more expense and a lot more work to find, buy, install and maintain all factory original components.

This wasn't meant to bash any organization or generalize the membership of any organization.

It was just to point out a couple attitudes that quite frankly suck.

I can understand enjoying a HOBBY where you try to restore your Corvette to an apparent as delivered state and to try not to get too many points deducted based on a published standards manual. What I find distasteful is the need to denigrate someone else for not enjoying the same.

I see quite often "If you modify your Vette you will destroy its value" presented as if it is an irrefutable fact. It's not a fact it is an opinion and any value will depend on supply and demand. It assumes that there is no demand for modified cars, only factory correct cars. It wouldn't be too bad if that is where it stopped, but it doesn't. For some reason if you are part of a crowd that has a demand for modified cars then you are somehow brainless. i.e. "Again it just proves to me that many people have more money then brains...how can you even begin to compare a make believe kit Camaro (Fose 572) is worth more then one of the rarest Corvettes who is selling as the original owner." Even though that statement makes no sense (talk about brainless) it implies that if you are willing to pay more for a Foose 572 Camaro than an original Corvette then you are an idiot or an "un knowledgeable too much money rich butt hole".

Is it just vicious snobbery or is there another agenda. If people find out the statement "If you modify your Vette you will destroy its value" is not true then what will happen to their cars values? Will the demand decrease? If restoring their vette has to change back to a hobby instead of an investment strategy then what will become of their efforts. If they can no longer look down on modified Vette owners who will they be better than.

1970 Dave, sorry to hear of your bad experience. Just remember that supply and demand thing, can't have too many of those Top Flight cars around.

The second attitude about owning ones name is just sheer stupidity but it apparently is something that filtered down through the food chain.

I bought my first vette in 1979....quickly got into autocross and ran for four years...Still have that 78 and drive it all the time...Last September,I bought a 69 502 and switch back and forth between the two...the 78 is bone stock numbers matching but I have no delusions about it's value...and the 69 is for the real pucker factor...both are fun to drive..I agree there are those who go for NCRS and more power to those guys...I just happen to like to drive them...so I guess all this means is there are two type of Corvette owners....?????

Ever wonder who buys stuff like origional nos rocker arm bolts? I try to be origioinal/correct if possible, and not too much of a pita, but let's get real. nos rocker arm bolts?? Who will ever see them. Don't worry if the bolt head on the knutin rod is correct or not, get out and drive the beast. I hate trailer queens.
