He has a "copy" of the build sheet...he has a "copy" of the dealer's invoice (window sticker?)....
Not to say yes or no but a comment on that. I have a friend who is into Buicks. He and his dad restore them. They had a GSX come through and he made a copy of the build sheet. The owner has the original and shows it under glass whenever the car shows. Now the original can hardly be read because of exposure to light and the copy my friend has is crystal clear. All I'm saying is that if I had the original build sheet and window sticker they would be in a climate controlled, not lighted area and all I'd show were copies.
From what I hear, he has the original tank sticker - safely locked up in a safe-deposit box. I don't blame him - show the copy with the serial # that matches the car.
The picture of the ORIGINAL tank sticker that's in Corvette Fever has the last three digits of the VIN handwritten on the side - and it looks like it was done when the sheet was printed. The stains on the sheet run across the faded ink. The original invoice has the serial # and lists the "Spec Turbo Jet 427."
The article states that he had many different engines in this car over the years of racing. He put a L88 in as soon as he got the car.Why order a ZL1 and drop and L88 in there if you want to race?
He also had a non original ZL1 engine in there at one time.I hope it is real the ZL1 is the greatest moter GM ever built.Id put it up against anything from the factory from any company.
I'm still not convinced that this was a ZL1 from the factory. Not saying that anyone is trying to pull a scam, just not convinced. Why? The yellow, fully documented ZL1 with the COMPLETE build sheet shows the motor listed as "L88 Special Turbo Jet 427" and the "ZL1" as the aluminum block option to go with it (Vette Vues, March 1980, page 10). Yes, I know that the ZL1 was more than just an L88 with an aluminum block, but that is how it was typed on the build sheet.
The total price of the car is also too low for a brand new one as the ZL1 package cost about $4700 alone. Not that I'm any expert, but in almost 30 years of reading every magazine and book article that I could find on the ZL1 Vette, I've never seen one written up like this on the build sheet. IMO, this looks like a dealer installed motor that the buyer may not have known came from the factory as something else.
Also, why wait all these years to finally show the "documentation"? This car was featured in the Dec 1991 issue of "Vette" magazine, but no documentation was provided then.

...thought that "hand written three digit" number on the tank sticker was just the "Job Number" assigned to each Corvette, not the serial number. These started at #001 and went to #999, then back to #001 and so on. My Orange '74 coupe, VIN#01950 has #052 written on the tank sheet, #052 on the front passenger side floorboard and #052 under the rear decklid. I think it's merely coincidence if "this" number just happens to match your VIN.
Years ago when I was in the Lancaster PA Corvette Club, early 90's, a guy from the Pittsburgh area would bring what he called an orig. ZL1 to the shows every now and then (I remember seeing it coming off a trailer at the local mall show). I kind of remember him saying the orig engine was removed by him and replaced with another 427 to save the orig from his racing habit. I also remember he had an article on it from 69 when he bought it and raced it, maybe a newspaper clipping with a pic. I do recall it having Gulf decals on it, but the color of the car eludes me, possibly, or probably it was orange. I was in the mall when he drove it in, we all thought the store windows would break, and I remember feeling the exhaust move my pants leg when it went by, and I was standing a good 30 feet away. If anyone remembers this guy and you were in the Lancaster County Corvette Club around 1992, chime in here. He was an older guy with a thin build and gray hair................................B
(Oh yeah, the number 11 sticks in my mind, that is the number he told me were sold)

Corvette Fever included a pic of the actual tank sticker with the appropriate RPO codes for a ZL-1. Not saying that in and off itself makes it a real ZL-1 but the tank sticker appears authentic... not a copy.
I got a tank sticker that says ZL-1 on it also, bought it from ebay for my 72. It looks authentic, its stained with urine. Only cost me $169.00.
Just did a search for Keddie Chevrolet, sticker as seen on quarter panel of the car, and they are located in Vandergrift, PA , which is near Pittsburgh. This must be the same guy I met in the 90's during that car show at the local mall in Lancaster, PA..................B
