Former C3 owner of 4 cars here, and I have a question.
If I was to buy a 1980 that had the smog pump and all the "plumbing" removed, how hard would it be to find the stuff to put back on. Would any 1980 Chevy 350 smog stuff fit and work?
Hey Joe,
Most of those parts are interchangable from platform to platform and the pumps are available over the counter at NAPA, etc. It shouldn't be too costly to re-install all of what you need.
Good luck,
Greg
I see you're in Texas so the 1980 would now be out of the emissions program. You still have to do the $12.50 safety inspection where they are supposed to check for the presence of some emissions stuff but most inspectors wouldn't know what to look for. Worst case you could bolt on something resembling a smog pump but I don't think it would be necessary.
Thanks for the replies. I should have stated the only reason I would be doing this was for keeping the car original and nothing to do with inspection purposes.

I think you can find "something" to put on there but the exact parts might be a little tricky. The diverter valves are application specific but a suitable one can be found that is close enough to look right. Lucky for you that you are at the right place to get the right stuff. As was said earlier, CF members have lots of that stuff in boxes gathering dust.
Only problem is finding a diverter valve that still functions. The diaphrams have gone out on most of them by now due to age so they do not hold vacuum anymore. This renders them non-functional and you can have backfiring if you get on the gas hard then get off real fast. They are used to prevent the backfiring that will occur otherwise.
You could get most of your emission stuff here free. Most guys take them off at 25 years old/antique.
....And then pay $1000+ to get all the stuff back when they decide to go the FCR route again....
Don't ask me how I know.....
Hey Budman, I was sifting through some old rags of mine and found my old "Spuds MacKenzie, Party Animal" T-shirt the other day (or what was left of it). Remember him? Same era as Bud Man. I had long ago cut it in to rags and stashed it in the rags barrel. The "Spuds" logo brought back fond college memories from long, long ago....
