Default Flippin speedometer.....

I was driving North on Highway 12 out of Illinois yesterday when my speedometer suddenly started twitching between 50 and 80 miles per hour.

My first thought was not a good one but then I calmed down and started to think things through.

I finally arrived at the conclusion that the speedometer cable must be the cause of the whole thing.

I got home and searched the forum and the general concensus of the threads supported my conclusion. That is when I started patting myself on the back for being such a clever fellow.

This morning on the way to work I could hear a ticking noise that increased in frequency as I drove faster. It was right in time with the swings of the speedometer needle. That is when I noticed the odometer wasnt moving any more. So much for my THEORY about the cable.

Sooooooo... while I am pulling the dash to get the speedo out I guess I might just as well do the carpet and get the A/C up to snuff.

I WILL be checking in for moral support on a regular basis when I start this.

It's not that tough a job. Drop the column and pull the dash cap for better access. Here's 2 good people that can fix that speedo:

http://www.corvetteinstruments.com/

or:

VetteInstruments@aol.com/favicon.ico

I've had good dealings with the latter...

What can go wrong with the speedo? It doesn't spin? I thought it has to be a broken cable or the gear?
