Time for a Chrome bumper vert. Hold out for the big bucks and a new car. Tell them your hair will never part the right way again. Joking aside, I'm glad your all right. BTW - What did your head hit?

The chrome bumper vert is in the back of my mind (whats left of it). I'm 6'-4" tall and I have a one piece acrylic top to give me the extra three inches of headroom. I think my head hit the top and back of the door jamb where the body and t-top meet. For a while there, I thought Cousin Eddie from NL's Vacation and I would have something in common.
And, in Texas, everyone is at fault until proven faultless. In Houston, we have a lawyer on TV calling himself the Texas Hammer who will get you the most money you deserve. Unfortunately for me, I feel lawyers, politicians, new/used car salesmen, televangelists, and such have one goal: To make your money their money with the least amount of effort possible.
Oh yeah, if the car is totalled, the rear bumper is going on the garage wall.
Dont let them total your car out, They wanted to do that to my brotheres car and he fought it, If anything theyll give you a little bit short of apraised value
Your OK thats the main thing, the vette can be fixed.
When I was working in Houston a few years ago I came accross some real aggresive driving, usually from women! I had one who came all the way accross the I10 lanes to brake test me because she thought I had cut her up on Westheimer (She accelerated to try and stop me moving into the right hand lane to do a right turn, I let her go and moved in behind her, she turned onto the I10 and I followed but moved to the outside lane to turn left. She came all the way over got in front of me and brake tested me then moved to the right hand lane and turned off) I just couldnt believe it! Still dont!

Its a good thing she liked you, hate to think what she would do if she didnt.
Glad to hear you are feeling better. Hope your vette gets to feeling better real soon too. I'm still waiting for a settlement from a July 2003 accident where I was rear ended by an off duty state trooper in a state owned pick up truck. Said they weren't liable.
Sorry to hear this. Glad you're not permanently injured. Those head wounds can hurt! Side note - My son slit his scalp playing basketball 2 weeks ago. 3 hours in the emergency room to get 4 stiches. Insult to the injury - $790 emergency room bill for 5 minutes attention.
Make sure you retain the salvage if its not repairable. Let them make you an offer. If it is low don't accept it. Be prepared to support how much your car is worth. Once you have an acceptable offer tell them you also want to keep the car. They may insist on deducting something if you keep the car. Find out how much first. Some companies get a preset percentage based on the year of the car from their salvage contractor...its the most they can deduct. Ask how much it is. I know up here salvage older then the 1996 model year is $100 or 10% of value if over $5000. Some US companies don't have percentages they go straight to auction so salvage value may be higher.
I saw a totalled 1970 LT1 convertible settled for $17,000 sell at the insurance auction for $18,000...that owner should have got $30,000 plus for that car. Instead he got $17,000 and the insurance company profitted $1000 on the sale...
