A Question for C3 Lovers !!!
Would you all think I was nuts to sell my car to buy a new C6 ??
I have been seriously thinking about it.
Here are a couple links to my car..

What would you think it is worth?
I have binders full of original documentation ...
and every #, casting # and date matches.. damn car still has the original cap/rotor,coil and rfi shield ... POP,window sticker, emisions book, keys, key knock-outs ..list goes on and on ....
I'm the #2 owner (4 years), and bought it from the first and only owner.
Anyways ..
Opinions are greatly appreciated !!

If you want something fun/comfortable to drive on long trips, get a used C5. Just don't sell that beautiful '72.

If I am not mistaken, your C3 is worth more as time passes...
But on the other hand, you might actually drive the C6...
time to become a two Vette family...good advice, pick-up a used C5 and drive it daily...keep that C3.I "saved" 36% over sticker for my Z and she is hardly used at all! She might drop in value a little more but for the most part will hold steady.
Or, if a C6 is what you want wait for them to drop in value. The C6's are still too new to the market to buy "new" or "used" IMHO.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
my biggest problem is I don't have the funds for both,
besides I would get killed for even thinking about another car
I had the law laid down .. one Vette at a time ..
So therein lies my trouble.
Here is the skiny ...
I really want a car that I can drive on trips,
one that I don't sweat 10 pounds of water off when I road-trip.
You'all have no IDEA how how hot a BB gets - oh buddy !!
Not much room under the hood for cooling..
Bill

An aluminum radiator isn't gonna help that heat. It's like a sauna. If it were a convertible, I'd call it a "roaster!"
Look at it this way Bill, not too many people have what you have right now, but there are thousands who have a C6.
I actually had a similar dilemma recently - I really do like the C5 convertibles, and after the C3 I think they are the next best looking Vette roadster (I know many won't agree, but it's all a personal thing). I particularly like the '98 Pace Car as it's so bright and OTT. Anyway, I posted the question on CCCUK website when a 98 Pace Car came up for sale locally and the main response was similar to what you are getting here : the C3 is a beautiful classic, the C5/6 is just a modern sportscar ! SEE HERE FOR CCCUK C3/C5 THREAD
Here in the UK, a C5 or a C6 is still a rare sight (I do 25000 miles for work every year and see maybe 2 each year). There in the USA they are everywhere, but C3 are much less commonly seen - so you'd be selling a beautiful classic Corvette, owned mostly by enthusiasts, and replacing it with a normal modern sportscar.
What I have done is buy a '95 Z28 for normal running around - modern, good-looking, and cheap - even here in UK. Of course, in UK it still turns heads everywhere, especially with 18's and big spoiler etc., but it allows me to use my C3 for pleasure only.
On the other hand, if you find the car less than a complete thrill and comfort to drive because of the ride, the heat, etc and you will enjoy the comfort, ride, reliabilty, etc from a new C6 than by all means sell the '72 and buy the C6.
One thing about older classic cars is that while they are classics and collectible, and wonderful to have they are not always the best to actualy enjoy for DRIVING. I know on my '65 I love the car and plan on dying with it but there are many cruises, trips, etc that I don't participate in with the car simply because after 2 hours MAX driving just gets to be uncomfortable. The heat gets unbearable on hot days, the manual steering and brakes and ride start to get to you, not to mention the wearing on your senses from having a 4.11 rear gearing and sidepipes screaming from high revving at highway speeds. After two hours my ears are ringing.
Nothing would please me more than having the '65 for local cruises and enjoyment and a more modern type Vette such as a new C6 for much more comfortable enjoyment on longer cruises and trips.
bottom line is it's your money and you need to do what makes you the most happy. If you hestitate taking the '72 out because you don't want to rack up too many miles on an original classic car or because it's not comfortable enough for you or for any reason and you feel you would get more use and enjoyment of use from a more modern Corvette like the C6 than by all means go for it!.
I just picked up a very low milage (under 10,000 original miles) '78. While it is not a C5 or C6, it will be a much more enjoyable car to enjoy on longer trips than my '65 because of the PS,PB,PW, A/C, etc. I'll still keep the '65 for my normal use "toy" but the '78 will be nice so the wife and I can also enjoy longer trips and participate on club events that we wouldn't in the '65.
it really comes down to what is more important to you - owning a "classic" and living with the characteristics of classic car performance, comfort levels, maintainance, etc issues, or owning a more modern Corvette and gaining a car that is more comfortable, more powerful, handles better, and is more reliable and dependably but without the "classic car ownership status" and the appreciation factor the older car benefits you.
you need to do what makes you happiest in your heart.
Such great insite and suggestions...
Thanks to everyone for sharing..
I guess that I'm going to have to start convincing my other half that two Vettes are OK
By the way ....
If I end up keeping it, I will be getting the car painted (body off) sometime durring this year.
See what is screwed up here is -- it is not a problem or care if I spend 10K to paint the damn thing but god forbid I buy another car
Just venting -- sorry......
Anyways ... The drama goes on ....
PS: Len how goes things?
Bill
She never drove my '82 (it's too loud, your too protective of it, I'm afraid I'll run over something, ect) but drives the Z at least once a week and, get this
plans to participate AS A DRIVER in her first cruise this weekend, me in the 82 and her in the Z...she's finally hooked!

If anything my BB runs "too cool"
I grew up surrounded by Corvettes that never got driven for various reasons. It's a shame to watch them deteriorate over time.
Just be sure you don't make the decision for the wrong reasons. Regret is a hard thing to live with.
