Default drifting a c3?

My wife is looking to pick up a new drift car. She really wants to try drifting a C3 Corvette (a 69, in fact, would be her preference). I've got to be honest, I have no idea how well such a car would do, or what sort of modifications (reinforcements?) would be necessary to pull it off.

So what do you guys think? Is it doable?

Lotsa HP BBC with a 3:90 rear and rev limiter... smoking the tires will be childs play Just pick your gear and mash the throttle

Understanding drifting is a whole differnt story

Hey - I use the "wife wants to do it" story also when I want a new toy...just last year she was begging me to stop buying her jewelry and get a new supercharger...

if your wife wants a drift car, get her a 240 sx. Corvettes are made for carving corners, not sliding through them

I would think the stock rear trailing arms/bearings and spring would not take well to drifting, but I don't really know. There is not a lot of reinforcement from the top for side loading them. Also, a 69 would be a much more expensive experiment than say a 79.

What is a "drift car." I've spoken English all my life, I've been around the world three times, I've been to six county fairs, and also I've walked around the block quite a few times, and I don't have a clue what a
"drift car" is. Can you please provide a simple explanation? Thanks?

Pretty sure you gotta have an aluminum wing to do it though

Brings back memories of when I was younger, driving home from a night out

You can't drift unless you have done it in the dirt...so go get in a Sprint car and learn what drifting is all about..on a 1/2 mile DIRT track...

Does doing it with 2 wheels and a steel shoe count? It's been awhile I raced flattrack from 1972-1975 and roadraced from 85-92

or twin turbos. Go to streetfire.net, follow link to videos, search for "crazy 68". Now there's some drifting.

Try it on snow. Makes it easy and doesn't hurt the equipment. I took off from the old Goodyear Aerospace plant (Loral Defense, however you spell it) in Akron on winter night in a Chevy van. Living in FLA, we don't get much of that white stuff, so I wanted a little practive before hitting public roads.

So I slid it sideways a few times in the lot, then put it in a drift and drove out of the lot, onto highway in front of Goodyear/Loral, and headed for 77. I dropped down the ramp, still in a drift with the tail to the left, went around the circle onto 77 and headed south, still drifting.

I decided I had control of the van in the white stuff if I could do that and had better get straight before a cop found me and thought I was reckless.

Heck, it was 1 am, a foot of snow, and still coming down. He probably couldn't have caught me anyway.

Now they do it for money (like everything else) for big crowds. The goal is kind of like me in the van, see who can keep the tail out the longest and be the fastest while doing it.

Tony: Thanks for the nice graphic. It basically looks like something Midget/Sprint car drivers were doing here 50 years or more ago on dirt tracks, although they did have rear wheel drive and did have a little difference in the geometry as they went around the track.
