77 production was the same mixed-up way. Doesn't hold a candle to the old San Jose, CA Fjord plant, though. My last-week-of-'65-production coupe had parts ranging from the so-called '64 1/2 models up through stuff that was introduced for '66 - all factory original. They just used whatever they had handy.

Default 68 intreresting Stuff Just a Start

If anyone heres of someone wanting to reproduce the one year only water diverters for a 68 I have one that gives a good idea what they look like. I talked to the top guys at Corvette Rubber Company and said there is not enough demand for that part, I needed to call them back because they didn't return my e-mail or phone call.

I gave the owner of EC Products (CORVETTE PACIFICA) a original 68 only park brake console in hopes of him making it better then the problem prone ones he offered earlier. The early ones fit perfect and look nice but you need to trim the inside reinforcement on the inside where it goes around the seat belt openings and the second one was flemsy soft ABS and the reinforcement fit but that was all, none of the mounting holes will line up and the park brake insert wouldn't even fit right. These two offerings were being offered by the major Corvette vendors. If you buy a 68 park brake console and it feel flemsy and doesn't fit because of the drilled holes in the wrong place and you need to work it to make it fit RETURN IT!! If you get lucky as I did and find one that is firm with a fine grain in the finish and fits perfect but the metal reinforcement don't fit between the seat belt inserts HOLD ON TO IT!!! I got one from Dr. Rebuild like that and only needed to trim the metal reinforement a little to get it to fit between the seat belt inserts, AL.

Al,
I had the same experience.
Purchased several new emergency brake consoles for my 68 at various swap meets and all fit like crap.
Finally purchased one from Dr. Rebuild through the catalog and it fit perfect and is installed in my car.

Did you need to trim the inside reinforcement for fit between the seat belt inserts? AL.

Al,
I didn't need to trim anything. I mounted the reinforcement pieces from my old one directly into the one I received from Dr. Rebuild and everything bolted up perfectly. It also seeme d to be of sturdier construction in the place where all the other ones crack as soon as you put your right arm down once or twice.

It will be stronger becuase the OEM console was thin fiberglass and the new one was a hard plastic, AL.

I thought the 68-69 footwell shields were made of white plastic.
The original shields are long gone on my early car. The brackets and mounting holes on my car called for the triangular shields only. This shield is mounted with three bolts to the frame and one bolt that is attached to a metal bracket at the bootom of the footwell.

Kurt, this is a factory installed piece that fits in the lower door jam as the later model C3s had one riveted in place instead in 68 they were held in place by adhesive, AL.

My user name was originally was for my 72 Buick GS 455 Stage1 4-Speed and I found "Stage1" was available so I went with that. My 68 Corvette has Antique Motor vehical tags that were on a antique motor vehical in 68!! In MD. for a one time fee you can have year correct tags issued to your antique vehical. AL.
