Default Another 68 Corvette Question

I've seen 68-69 with a front heat shield like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/68-69...QQcmdZViewItem . Mine doesn't have this just a two triangle metal shields that screws to the frame on the left and right, AL.

That ebay pic looks about right. My 68 came with the same shields, they were too rusty/dented to reuse, so I made another set out of sheet steel. Your factory assembly manual show how they mount

There's a repro source for brand new ones I've sent you. They are at Bloomington Gold each year.

Randy, thanks for the link! That company sells great parts, I didn't know they sold the shield kits.

I'm still puzzled about the the shields on my 68, mine never had that style shield. Mine had a triangle shaped metal shield at both front corners of the frame rails just in back of the front wheels. I know mine came this way because there are no holes drilled for the brackets for the ones in the picture, just mounting holes for the ones bolted to the frame , AL.

As I understand '68's (and, like women, you never completely understand '68's) some had those shields, some didn't. I'll try to scan a couple of pages from the AIM and send those to you for reference.

You'll love what I did. The ones that were on the car were rusty and in bad shape so I took a piece of polished stainless steel used on like soda machines and cut out the correct shape and they look cool! Its funny I saw a listing for the mid year Corvette big block showing the same ones that were on my car, AL.

Default Another 68 Parts Question

Okay, I think I understand it now. The early 68s used the #B2509A http://www.cscreproductions.com/68_82_4.htm and the late ones into the 69 model year used the B2510 http://www.cscreproductions.com/68_82_3.htm AL.

Default Another 68 Parts Question

Here is the part that makes no sense my coupe was built on 4/29/68 and I thought this would be a mid or late production. My Corvette has the first design splash shields and seat backs and second design mirror position, door panels with real pull handles, wiper over ride system, and center windshield frame cover. Windshield date codes in late 67 and the others in mid 68 , AL.

I may have been confused and confused others. I thought of the heat shields below the floor pan, not the splash shields as depicted in rihwoods picture.

So in short my car had no heat shields from the factory just two splash shields and the silver colored floor insulation, AL.

I'm still lost in the 68ville . My 68 built on 4/28/68 has no shields on the forward part of the foor just the two triangle shield bolted the frame and the 69 uses the same set up as the 69 but the ealy 68s supposed to have a plastic shields at the firewall not metal AL.
