I have started a cleanup/redo on my 1979 vette and have run into an "uh-oh". The windshield frame upper corners are badly rusted. Has anyone replaced, or had replaced any part or all of the frame?
If it's just the upper corners, it's not too bad.
The lower corners are much more expensive to have fixed.
I replaced the entire upper half of my WS frame from a donor
that had lower corner rot. I measured and remeasured many
times to make sure I didn't F it up.
You could probably have the upper corners replaced or repaired
professionally in the $500-1000 range.
it appears the two corners and center piece need to be replaced...
you replaced yours/did this yourself? How difficult was this...I have the whole interior out so working in the car is not an issue...can you describe what you had to do? I have friends and family that can weld/use torchrs so that isn't an issue..I see the parts are available from various parts catalogs....
I'll try to dig up my old posts/pics.
Yes - I did it myself. I replaced from half-way up the
side posts ... back to the rear of the Ttop bar.
If jsut doing the corners and header bar, you will need to
be careful cutting the pieces out. Also, be damn sure the
lower corners are OK before moving forward with the uppers.
