Cost of C4's in the UK says it all. You can pay a lot less for a C4 in the UK than any other model Vette in a similiar condition. It's the shape ! The C3 and C5 look like no other car. When a C3 or C5 is approaching you down the road at a distance you know its a Vette. When a C4 comes your way it could be any other number of wedgie cars TVR, Lotus etc etc. The C4 could well be a better car mechanically and performance wise compared to a C3..... but it has no style. IMHO
Good point...those around here are going for less than $7000...most at $5000-$6000 and they are not in good shape either...most abused Corvettes of all I would suspect...
But you gotta love that "Pac Man Dash" !!!!!
I like 'em. I don't know why the dislike. When I was a young 20 year old and these came out, everyone loved them. When the Vert came out, people were really wowed and as time went on in the mid to late '80's I remember the buzz about the performance. They're great cars. I'm curious if the dislike or indifference to the C-4 is age related. Do people 40 years or so and younger like the C-4's more or less than older folks. I'm just taking a stab here.
I love the C-3 and (gasp) think they're the best looking Corvette. Don't get me wrong I like each generation; but I grew up with the C-3 and as a kid I always wanted one.
I would be curious as to people's age too, and their opinion of the C4. I'm 34, and pretty much agree with the consensus that I think they just lack the styling of other generations. That being said, they are the only generation (other than C6) that I've never ridden in or driven, so I can't comment on performance.
I dislike the lackluster design of the C4. It is a victim of it's time. Lots of cars were boxy in those days. That is not to say I think its a POS. Its just not as pretty as the previous models.
Although I admit, there is a little nostalgia surfacing as I get older (32 in May). I wouldnt mind having one as a DD.
Also, I dont care too much for the looks of the C6 either. That rearend needs something done to it, and I dont like the headlights.
I am 29 years old. And like I said before, I like the C4. No, not as much as my C3 but I do like them. I have to agree with the group, I am not impressed with the body styling of the c4's. Yes, I did have a certain "Corvette" style but not enough. I think that a lot of the design in the 80's was about fuctionality(sp). Yuppies were more concerned about cup holders and a/c than classic lines and horsepower. The last "classy" Vette in my opinion was made in 82. After that, they all start to blend together to me.

I hope I can hellp.
I love my 91 coupe. It is fast, very reliable, gets good mileage and NO RUST! I disagree with those who say it has no style. I think it has real corvette class. I would strongly suggest a C4 to a first time buyer. My 72 is no car for a beginner who doesn't have at least some knowledge of cars and tools.
Having said all that, the 72 will turn more heads any day and will draw more guys to it for a look-see than the 91 will. I love the C3s with a real passion-in-the-gut feel. And I sense that the C3 owners love their vettes in a way few C4 owners do.....it's a different beast.
When the C5s came out there was lots of discussion as to "they're ugly" or they have too big a rear or "no class styling". I never saw a corvette I didn't like (with the exception of some customized ones). I think that positive comments about any generation corvette says more about the person than the car itself.
Find a nice C4 for the daily driver and the fun, keep the C3 for the thrills and the passion.........

Plus, at 6'4", I fit much better in a C5-6. In a C4, my head sticks up above the windshield in the convertibles. In the C5, I have plenty of head room.
To boxy.... No style really, and my dad owned one 5 years ago, it had so many electrical problems... But it was a cool driver for a while... My bro is thinking about sellin his ricer and buyin one though, i told him to go buy a 78 -82 instead...
Every generation seems to go through this period. I remember when
the C3 was least liked (and least respected). The C5 will be next.
It's not a classic....and its not "new"
What's not to like,it's a vette
maybe not the best looking vette ,(subjective), but they are a great car to drive. a very nice toy or DD
If I could talk the wife into it. I'd buy a early 90s vert.
Often "hate" is used casually to describe things one merely dislikes, such as a particular style of architecture, a certain climate, one's job, or some particular food........
