Default Why i did it....

Why im building my C3:

I want to have some one ride in it during a parade.

I want to show the people who asked why......Just that,...Why

I want to take it to panama city beach because thats where i saw the one that gave me the idea.

I want to know I can

I want to see people crowd around it and talk about how amazing it is that it came so far from what it was.

I want to cruise the strip on a friday night.

I want to ride down the interstate and listen to something by Bob Seger

I want to take my girlfriend for a ride thru the mountains.

I want to show my ex wife i could.

I want to finish something i started.

I want to go out to dinner in it.

I want to win something at a car show.

I want to be able to sit in the garage and look at it knowing its finsihed

I want to drive to savannah with it.

I want to take it on the interstate with the top down.

i want someone to ask how much...i want to reply it wasnt for sale when i was disgusted with it, its sure not for sale now.

I want a print of it sitting with my C5.

I want to take the neighborhood kids for a drive in it.

I want those kids parents to see why they heard loud sounds coming from my garage for the last 6 months.

I want to drive it to church on a sunday.

These are just a few of the reasons/things ive dreamed about along the way....Yours?

I want to give it to my son when he goes to college, because no one ever bought me a car.

Because in 81 I was 19 and all I could afford was the Bob Seger cassette And yes I am a Seger fan (70s child )

I have loved the Corvette since I was old enough to say the word. C2s and C3s cannot be mistaken for any other car on the road.

I remember when the 1980 model came out with the integrated air dam front. It was the crowning touch to the sexiest sports car on the road!

Now at 44 , I have a 15 year old who is car crazy and I want to share a little piece of my past with him

And when the time is right, dump the clutch and do a sideways departure from that light in front of the GM dealership downtown, just for him

Someday, I want to drop my grand-kids off at Kindergarten in it.
I DID drop my kids off at Kindergarten a couple times - before the resto.
Let's see - oldest is 12 ... so I have at least 12 more years to finish it up.

When I get into my C3, sitting low behind them swooping fenders, I pretend I'm a super hero secret agent like Batman or 007. People see me and wonder what crime I'm off to solve. I pretend opening the headlight doors, reveals machine guns which I can shoot at enemy agents (which are mostly Fords). I can open the wiper door which accesses missiles to shoot down bad guys (driving BMW's). When I downshift to 2nd and punch it, I go into super pursuit mode, easily evading anyone trying to tail me. However, when the wife's with me in the car, I'm just an old fart driving an old Vette.

I'm doing it because when people look at it and ask who did all the work I can proudly say "I did it".

So that every kid in my neighborhood that gives me a thumbs up and yells "Cool Car!" is going to grow up saying "There used to be a guy in my neighborhood that had one JUST LIKE THAT when I was a kid". Just like I do now.

Great thread!!! Here's my list why I'm doing my '69 frame-off:

I want to say "I did it all myself - and yes, I painted it myself too"

I want to drive around in one of the first cars I ever fell in love with when I was a little kid

Because I've always wanted one since I was 12 yrs old

Because 33 years is long enough to wait for something (yes math majors, this makes me 45 )

Because just going out and buying one wouldn't have the same satisfaction for me

I want to say "Yes, I realize I've piled more money and time into this than I will likely ever get back out"

Because I'm building this car for me and nobody else

Because I'm a perfectionist and I'd never be happy with anybody else's work.

Because I'll have nobody to blame but myself if I screw anything up.

Because it will never truly be done
