I put the vette away last Sunday with the T-tops off. I never done this before, I always put the tops on before I put it away. When I went out today the windshield was cracked. Do you think its possible that the high heat during the week did this? My vette is inside a wood shed. It sometimes gets to 118 degrees in there, this past week we broke a lot of heat records here. I am wondering if the heat could have caused this.
was it chipt or crackt to start with?? if not i kinda dought that the heat has dun this. i live in florida and it gets hott down here, mine is good just scratched a little. but heat and cold maks cracks grow like crazy.
Usually a car that is closed up tight is more likely to have windshield damage due to heat expansion than an open car. I would suspect that you may have gotten a small unnoticable crack when driving it and it traveled while parked. Either that or you have some frame or birdcage issues that are putting stress on the windshield glass. You need to find out the cause before you replace it and crack another one. When they replace the glass they will remove the windshield trim and you can readily see if the birdcage is rusted.
Thanks for the replys, I'm going to wait to have the windshield replaced. I'm going to pull the motor soon so I'll wait till I'm done just in case. Thanks again.
Mine cracked in the SoCal heat last summer right down the middle, but it was getting hard to see out of anyway so that gave me an excuse to replace it, which I did in the middle of my auto-to-4-speed conversion while I had the dash ripped apart. I called Safelite Auto Glass (they're nationwide) and a guy came to my house and did it while I watched and took pictures for $201.00. I highly recommend them.
