Quick turnaround time , also.
Might not be a bad idea as my drivers side lock sticks a bit when pressing it in.

I have had keys for a 70's Camaro and 70's Mopar made from the serial number. Both times were at the parts counter. Now this was in the 80's before the "security chip" keys but in both cases the counter man pulled out the book (like a small phone book) for that year and found the tumbler settings from the VIN.

Thats what I have always thought, but the other forum member said that many companies do make them so I was really asking him directly who he was referring to.

This is about the only thing that I can every find and for $50 or more those do not look in that great shape.

Corey 68, if you keys work let me know and I might try getting my locks out to get to the cylinder code.

I'm picking them up tomorrow. I've been getting SLAMMED at the hospital and hadn't had time to pick up the locks. I'll post up after work.

the tumblers. Gently remove the blank and observe the marks left in the wax.
From there, you can grind/file the blank to fit the tumbler pattern in the wax.

Has anyone actually EVER done this ? Does it work, or am I spankin' it ?

NHVette,

What you are describing is called "impressioning" and it is done a little differently then how you were told. Due to how the locks are constructed, that method will not work with GM locks as they use wafers instead of tumblers and have an integrated sidebar lock. Ford and Chrysler use tumblers or "Pins" and can be impressioned.

And I stand corrected on an earlier statement regarding the availability of '68 door locks. They are not readily available. I forgot that they are in the push button. I was thinking of '69 and newer door locks which are in the door skin itself. My bad.
