"sweetheart.....look at what you have done to your hands. They look bad"
And shes right. ive cut, pinched, scrapped, and scarred the crap out of my hands the last year. just 2 weeks ago i badly cut my right hand on the backside and was so busy working i just pressed it against a hot header to seal it to stop the bleeding. Hurt like hell, but didnt stop me from working. Add that scar and the others with the grease thats ground in, ragged finger nails and never give them the chance to get totally get clean...my hands are a mess. On top of that my thumbs have ezema.
I am embarrased when people see them, but damn i have so much fun using them. I know at dinners and meetings with clients they stand out.
Yeah ive been a mechanic for over 20 years now,so my hands have taken a beating, plus im allergic to antifreeze, oil, tranmission fluid,i got to use special cream(not that kind) on my hands every night. And for the last 10 years ive been working on the big stuff, school buses, firetrucks, backhoes, loaders,so you use even bigger hammers that hurt worse when you miss, lol.I use a scrub brush in the shower every night so there clean at least.

I'm pretty sure there's a 12 step program somewhere out there for you.
My hands can get pretty banged up too. I try my best to remember to use some rubber gloves while working on the car, that helps a lot with grease under the fingernails and stuff. They make it tough when you're working on something with real small parts though. In the business world banged up and greasy hands don't fly...

Wow....Rambo's got nothing on you!!!
My knuckes are almost healed so that means soon something will go wrong that requires me scraping them off again. I wear rubber gloves nowadays to keep my hands clean, but the knuckles still take a beating.
I still have POR15 on the back of my shoulders from laying under the car painting the frame (that was late May)...and my hands never get a chance to heal.
I just cut my finger nails so close that dirt and greese have nowhere to hide. I don't feel pain when i take a step back and admire my finished product.
No, dirty hands don't have a place in the business world but if that ever became a handicap then the business world wouldn't belong in my life.
Its a job and its only purpose is to feed my vette!
I'm a tile contractor...my hands get a relief when I head for the Vette... I did see a guy in Australia though, (mechanic) and he had no finger nails!!! Dang it looked ugly..said it was caused by not cleaning his hands well...ummmmm.
After 35 plus years of working on cars and machinery, my hands stand out as looking abused.
I no longer can feel much of anything with them any more. Many times I will be working in the garage and see blood marks on what ever I am working on, then looked to see what the battle damage was, and wonder what caused it.
Worked in the pit of a Texaco Xpress lube during highschool, then the marine corps added bullet wounds and shrapnel scars to both hands. I got a couple of broke nuckles from figting, and all kinds of scrapes and cuts from my new puppy. It adds character.
believe it or not I make a bleach solution (mix w/ water) to soak my hands when I have customer meetings during "wreching season". Too hot in the garage now so my hands look pretty reasonable.
They're great, I'm not so worried about banging my hands up as I was before. My forearms on the other hand have seen better days...looks like I been sorting cats with all the cuts/scratches I have.
Yep, my problem is that my skin is getting so thin that it tears real easy!!! I'll be working and get this warm ozing feeling, sure enough, I've ripped my skin again... It's hell getting older....

When I was in HS (20-ish years ago) one of my teachers always had cuts up-and-down his forearms. I never asked why, just figured he had a bunch of cats and was a weirdo. Now looking back I bet he had an old British car or something!
My doctor tells me that the tennis elbow in my right arm is caused from turning wrenches for the last 15+ years on heavy equipment. I think my wife just needs some flowers, and a nice dinner. The other side effect is the Popeye forearms.
Good dish soap seems to do wonders for getting the grease and grime off when used with a scotch bright pad.

And carb. cleaner works good to clean out a greasy cut...
