I suggest you dig a little deeper into some theory about cats defense before you post your opinion
My father is a Vet and I hae seen it all...it hurts cats and it hurts my father as well to perform the procedure
A cats main protection is it's front claws....
Cats never defend them selves with their hind claws unless they get entangled with another animal.........Please dont try to tell me different (if that were the case, you would see pictures of cats doing a head stand while ready to strike with their hind legs)...doesnt happen...no way
Perhaps you have seen pictures of cats on ther hind legs ready to strike with their front claws.... they do not use their hind claws at all unless they get to the "wrestling mode"
I cant believe that anybody that knows anything about domestic cats could possibly think that claws are just for holding on......
Sorry ....but you are seriously mistaken..........
What happened last night. Did you catch it or is the chicken gone and an empty trap?
Just went out-"Zora" is pretty smart. He was not inside but the trap was tripped and the chicken was still wired to the bottom but he had turned the cage on its side and eaten part of the chicken from the bottom. He doesnt want to be caught. The cage is 24" long.I think maybe a longer cage might be the answer so he has to go inside further.

Tomorrow, the cage will be gone, and all you'll find is a bare chicken bone.
I'm sure most know various things cats will do when they want out of the house.First they meow to get your attention....then they go scratch something or rattle the window blinds....
Once I was laying on the couch reading and ignored the cat...he jumped up on the arm of the couch and hit the light switch...
This is actually the first cat I have ever had de-clawed. The vet assured me it was a very simple process so long as the kitten is young. She plays with Rocket all the time. She still has her hind claws, and teeth. She could easily hunt and defend herself with both or those were she to get outside. She's fast, agile, and can jump a six foot barrier without climbing up. I have no reserve about having her front claws removed. she's happy, I'm happy, the furniture is happy...
Cut all your fingers off at the first knuckle. That's the same as being de-clawed if you were a cat.
If you have to choose between getting your cat de-clawed and worrying about your furniture being ruined, don't own a cat.
Thanks for the suggestion...it's noted for future use.
Can you assure your cat won't escape over the next 13 ~ 20 yrs. of its life? Can you be assured the cat will be in your care & control for the remainder of its life? Now that you have mutilated it, it's up to you to make sure he/she is protected, because he/she can no longer protect him/her self.

Yes, I can say that she will be loved and cared for her entire life. Also, she's VERY good at protecting herself, and running away for that matter. Don't lecture me for my practices with my kitten. A trained and specialized vet/doctor performed the procedure. Butchering would been me going after her claws with a meat clever. I could care less if you feel what I did was wrong or not...but don't tell me what to do or not to do.

And for the record, I look nothing like this...
The vet performed the operation because you paid him. Most vet's these days will not de-claw.
And, as long as you are posting here in the public forum, I will tell you to do anything I want to tell you to do. As you already mutilated your cat, however, I can only hope others reading about your cruelty will change their mind about doing the same.

why did you single me out, and not any of the other members that de-clawed their cats? Huh? Seems a bit closed minded and hypocritical if you ask me. You gonna tell them what to do next? You think they'll appreciate that as much or more than I did? I said you were welcome to your opinion, as everyone else is...but it doesn't make you right.
Step back and take a breath guys. I have had cats both ways and right now this cat has its claws. The one we had declawed was a beast. We let it out and there was no small animals to be found anywhere. As soon as this one died, old age the small creatures came back. SO I don't think he was defenseless in any way at all. This one that has its claws goes out for about 5 minutes and wants back in. I don't think you mutilate a cat by declawing. It is a personal preference. There are plenty of animals that are fixed and nobody complains about it. That is removal of parts. A scracthing post is a good idea but they don't always take to them.

Where do you get your information about "most vets"?
How is it "cruelty" if it doesn't hurt the cat? It's about like getting your appendix removed. Is that cruelty?
