How do I fix this?

The fiberglass has come away from the metal crossmember and the fiberglass now sits proud of the hood when the hood is closed .
Does anybody know the best way of securing the fiberglass to the metal crossmember?
You can press the two together but it is under tension, sorry the pic isn't very detailed but I hope you get the general Idea where I mean.

Hope you can advise me of the best course of action, many thanks in advance Jerry

Depending upon the year, the header bar is riveted to a fiberglass bonding strip which is, in turn, bonded to the underside of the hood surround panel. You will need to clean up as much of the old bonding adhesive as you can, underside of hood surround and bonding strip, then rebond.

Some years do not have the rivets, but for earlier cars the rivet heads on the header bar will back out through the bonding strip and begin appearing on the outer surface of your hood surround panel. Now would be the time to grind the rivets down and prevent the show through.

.....there are rivets securing glass to surround....you can drill them out/replace,then re-glass inway of new rivets..,paint...etc...
I'll look for link on repairs...

To the best of my knowledge, rivets are only in chromie years (68-72).
Looks like you might want to spring for a new header bar here ...
probably need the end brackets, too.
I was lucky to replace mine with the hood surround upside-down.

Funny stuff with my home server.
Can youz guyz get this link OK ??

Please fill out your profile so we know more about your 'Vette. It looks like you have the later version header bar, sans rivets. You need a new reinforcement like this one from Ecklers....

The link worked for me to, many thanks for that.

Big_G have now filled out my profile a bit more.

looks like I will have to remove mine and check out the condition, I will let you know how I get on with it but I'm not a very fast worker so please be patient.
Thanks for the advice.

Cheers for now

Remove, destroy, purchase new header, clean underside of surround, bolt new in w/ end brackets on each side that bolt thru the inner fenders, bolt your headlights in to check for clearance, take measurements on how far the header lip is from the front hood opening(bottom side),then draw the same shape on the top w/a pencil, and straight edge.Take several measurements so you have all the info.to draw the exact on the top side.Once you have this, then drill pilot hols every 4-6" from side to side, and top,and bottom.Screw it in place, and make sure that your headlights will open/close w/out hitting the glass.Make sure!!!This is your last chance.Remove headlights again, back out your screws, and get ready to glue.Your new header will come painted,so rough up w/ a small grinder. The same w/ the fiberglass. This will help in adhesion.Glue eveything, and don't go overboard, but don't be afraid to use the stuff. The center area doesn't come in contact as well, souse alittle more glue here, bud.Get in place, line up you pilot holes, and put your screws in.Don't over tighten, but snug good.Let set up for 24 hrs, remove screws, and your ready for bodywork.Don't just fill the holes,or you'll have problems later.Grind out,so there's a low spot all the way around the hole,w/the the screw hole being the lowest, graduating up to a higher area.Glass each hole w/quality glass, grind level, then finish out your body work. Also, make sure that you get glue that is for bonding glass to metal/smc to metal.Duramix is good, and i've had very good results w/sem products. This isn't a hard job,but fairly time consuming installing the headlights, removing the headlights, etc.Just go slow, and be sure to make sure to recheck your every measurement.Once this stuff sets up.....you're committed!Good luck, bud.
