Sorry to disagree, but the clone is alive in corvette country as it is anywhere else. The fundamental reason for a clone is that there are not enough to go around. There are more Hemi cars now than 20 years ago and the numbers will keep rising. Just the same with L-88's. Like my clone.

What is the Ultimate Corvette?

Grand Sport, 5 made and designed to race with Cobra, GTO, Aston 214 and Lightweight E Type Jag. Other than the Aston the rest are cloned or better stated, lovingly handcrafted in order to bring the owner closer to the real thing. Many are raced.

Next?

Mako Shark II :in the 70's used to be a bunch of these clones, but none exactly as the original. I know the market does not agree with me, but what the original show car was was awesome. Big Block and eventually ZL-1 power in a sinister shape. A real correct accurate Mako II would be a neat tour de force for Corvette Repair or another big shop to hit Carlisle with. How many 435's do we need anyway? Well someone has to buy it and thats the bottom line. What a ship for a late night LA to Vegas run however....

L-88 Clones : Many superb ones built, especially the wonderful black 67 coupe, that no saled on Ebay for above $125,000. With only a handful made, and so many great color combos not represented, how can you deny they are wonderful to see now?

The real issue is that with a Mopar or Cobra, all you can do is replicate the original and leave it there. There is wiggle room in suspensions and engines, but the basic shapes lose something when F'ed with, FOOSE creations aside. The alternative to a factory resto is to clone. Thats really it in every other world.

However we now have the nation cornered with...

The HYBRID Corvette. Corvettes are now past cloning, and leaving into new trerritory. Have you seen that awesome tube frame fantastic being built here on the forums? The Clone while neat is limiting, and Corvettes are so much more than restoration or clone. They are the ultimate collector car for originality with flares, wheels and paints giving the look of the car immense SCOPE and Depth through engine and suspension tweaks and mods. There are new 55's C1's and C2's running on C5 chassis and motors, there are C3's being modified with new frames, motors, transmissions and the like. Wait....I guess I do agree with you.

Upon reflection. I kinda hate other cars. Especially Mustangs.

Not sure I agree, Look at the prices of vintage Poncho's! T/A Super Duty's and H.O.'s are through the roof.

You could register it like a new build. I've helped a couple friends with their scratch built from the ground up street rods. One has a nice '34 Ford full fendered rod. Ypu just have to have the state police look at it, be able to produce sales reciepts for the major componets...etc.
(and then here in Indiana let the state hand you that tax bill)

Yep, I've owned several previous Poncho's. Looking at that one, it is obvious why it wasn't produced.

Unfortunately, no...they were never produced. You may track down the prototype and buy it, but seeing as how much factory prototypes are selling for @ Barrett-Jackson, you better have a couple mil lire $$$ !

I said "mil" (million), not "mille"! Even so, with the current exchange rate, a couple "million" lire(ITL) = $1300USD... I guess that makes me a millionaire in Italy!
