I am iterested in upgrading my stock (twin shaft style head unit) to a modern chassis . W/O cutting the bezel all to hell .. Is there any aftermarket bezels out there that would use a modern head unit ? or if not have any of you use a modern radio with the stock bezel ?

This bezel will allow a single DIN style head unit in your dash without cutting. Personally I would buy a new standard one, cut the hole yourself, and save the new one as a spare. http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...dept%5Fid=1030
Ouch, 289.99!! the head unit is worth 89.99 if that. The corvette cassette flap emblem is another 200$ What a scam .. No thanks .. I will get another standard bezel and get a top end din unit for a lot less.

Stop by your local car audio shop and see what they have that can fit without butchering your interior. Try Best Buy, and ask some questions. They should be able to tell you if they have something for your 'vette

It is actual;y a top end unit in old stereo clothing. It's got all the benefits of a new Kenwood Excelon, but it looks stock and fits in a stock location.
Now, I tend to agree with you...you have more options and value by getting a DIN bezel, and installing a nice aftermarket head unit.
I bought a new center console bezel from wilcox. I think it was a CF deal of $150.00 for the bezel. I bought an alpine radio, threw some 6x9's in the back, replaced the front speakers, hooked it all up with XM radio and called it a day.
I just cut my bezel and fit the DIN CD player in. Even if you bought a stock bezel and cut it you would still saved money over what they want for a bezel made to fit a DIN radio. Then you can buy any radio you want. Pioneer radio

Don't forget to warn him him about messing up. I have done several of these, and I still messed up, and had to buy ANOTHER one...which ended up costing more than a new one with the cutout ion it already.
I would recommend buying a modern CD player of your choice. Most newer models have an auxillary plug on the front to hook up an IPod or MP3 player. I cut the stock radio bezel and then finished off with a bezel cover from millionbuy.com I think the cover was about $14 including shipping. I used the plastic bezel as a template to scribe a line on the stock stereo bezel and used that as my cut line.

Thanks. I put this in my father's 1975. It had the original factory 2 shaft radio. I used a jigsaw for the main cuts of the stock bezel and then smoothed out the rest of the way with a dremel tool.

I use a Dremel all the way with the cutoff wheels. They are small and easy to be precise with. I still messed one up...that was a $75 mistake.
I too use a Dremel with a 1" cut-off wheel. Measure twice, cut once and you can always cut more off but can not add it back on. I sold about 20 of these on E-Bay for $350 with a real nice Kenwood head unit with remote control. Stopped doing it about a year ago. The extra cash helped fund some of my '82 restoration.

Here is the finished product:
"I used the plastic bezel as a template to scribe a line on the stock stereo bezel and used that as my cut line." ? did you use the bezel cover as a template and cover?

would you happen to have the part number for the bezel? (millionbuy.com)
I just cut the DIN hole with a cut off wheel(die grinder, but a dremel would also work) in my 74 bezel, measure twice and take your time it is real easy to screw this up!After that I just used a little bondo to fill in the spaces between the mounting bracket for the head unit and repainted it.I'll see if I can get a picture or two tomorrow if you like.
