Default Power Windows

I am still having problems with my power windows on my 69. I have pulled all of the tracks out and cleaned all of the old grease out and regreased them. The motors are brand new and they go down fast and when they go up they are real slow on both sides. The rollers are good and the spring has tension. Does anybody have any ideas????

I'd say you need to preload the springs a bit. With the regulator in the full up position the springs should still have a bit of tension in them. If not, try clocking them 1/2 turn or 1 turn then wind the free end around until it catches on the retaining post.

Do I need to take the regulator out to pre load the spring?

Default Look at your alternator

A 100 amp alternator helps. My 81 was slow and I had gone throught what you have. Sometime before I got the car someone had put a 35 amp alternator on mine.

When I was playing with mine it seemed like there was a pretty heavy voltage drop across the circuit, thats why the 100 amp alternator helped jle. When I put mine back together I'll be going thru all the contacts and maybe bumping the wire up a size. The motors are plenty strong, it just seems on a 25 or 30 yr old car the connections get a bit weak so you don't get full voltage at the motor. Make a set of heavy test cables to connect to the motor and see what happens or put a voltmeter on the motor when you hit the switch. You should get all 14 volts with the engine running

Are you sure you are getting full voltage to the window motor? The window switches on your center console can get pretty grungy and make poor contact...the result can be slow window movement. Try cleaning the switches and see what happens (before you take the door apart again).

Yes, I think you will.

As others have mentioned it may be worth checking the electrical items as well. This was not an issue for me since I replaced all of my harnesses and electrical items with new. I remember the replacement motor I got did not have a ground connector attached to it like the original motor had. You've got to make sure that the ground connection is good. You don't necessarily need to have the connection directly on the motor but you've got to have a good ground attachment somewhere in the door.

The reason I thought of the spring being the culprit was that it is meant to counter the weight of the window. The spring resists the window weight while lowering it and assists the motor when raising it. I had to play with the tension in the regulator springs in my car a bit to get the windows to raise and lower at the same rate.
