paint preservation?
so, what causes this? if i go to the expense of getting my car repainted, how do i prevent this from happening again?
After talking to some paint specialists here's what I've gathered:
1) Try to keep from going to and from extreme temperatures...i.e. 50 degrees to 80 degrees and back. Fiberglass, like anything else, "moves" with temperature change, this will worsen the spidering. Keep it in a temp. controlled environment when parked too.
2) Keep it out of the sun! This, to me, is the tough one. How do you drive it?!
The sun is the most damaging! Limit the trips, amount of time it sits under the UV's.3) Pop the hood when you get home! Let the heat out.
My paint is about 10 years old and looks really good from 5 feet. It also shines well, but get right up on it and you can see some imperfections. Repainting is in the future for sure, but a top notch paint job is $4-5K around here, and that's the "good buddy" discount!
I'm sure there's more on the subject in here, that's just what I've learned.
