I beleive you hit the nail on the head . i am suffering from S. A. D. right now i am getting ready to go to the DENTIST for a teeth cleaning and i am looking forward to it. just another excuse so i do not have to work on the vet.
It's easy to lose motivation...that's why the average car project takes five years.
I'm behind the curve yet again. 8 years and it's just now starting to look like I'm making progress. I must admit I lost motivation for a few years and worked on other projects. It's coming along nicely now that I'm working on it again though.
I tell ya what worked for me.....Just finally getting rid of the other projects that were standing in my way. 3 Corvette projects at one time was just too much; Now I'm down to a respectable 2.
An article in Auto Weekly a year or so ago. They did a poll, and asked a few thousand people in random locations how long their project took and why. It was a five year average, and the biggest reason was motivation.
glad to hear that. I did 80% of my restoration in 6 months working like mad. took a few months off to do some house remodeling and can't seem to get that motivation back, hopefully the warm weather wil help.

That was my problem. I had three Vettes. I still have too many projects. In this order.
Like any of us wanna work in a cold *** garage. Yep, nothing more fun then laying under a C3 on the cold concrete floor and getting all nice and greasy dirty. My idea of fun.
I vowed to one day own a Vette, and I've accomplished that one, so my next vow is to one day have an insulated, heated and cooled garage. I used a blast cabinet in a guys garage the other week when it went down in the single digits that night and I believe I could have taken my sweatshirt off to just short sleeves and been comfortable. It was a bright, clean and warm garage, just the opposite of mine.
does anyone know why i did not work for three days and did not even feel like working on my vet.all i did was shovel snow, shovel snow, and shoveled more snow. i do have a nice warm shed to work on my car but all i do when not shoveling is look on this darn computer. i must put left door panel back on change heat pad under hood and give car coat of wax. if i was working at my full time job i would be bitchen i never get time to work on vet. O WELL maybe this darn winter made me lose interest in car, ialways need an excuse
I moved, my place has a nice new heated shop, nice and big. The moving day included the worst snow storm of the year. My car is still in the new garage not even touched. I have to paint the house first, your not alone.

Glad my 82 frame-off restoration will only take 1/2 of the average time. Should be done this May. I too lost interest a few times throughout the process, but once I saw the Vettes at Carlisle, PA, it reenergized my drive. Like Durango said, start with a small project, finish that, and then you may feel a sense of acomplishment.
i felt mine was getting neglected also. i had not even started it for a month. so yesterday, i took it for a spin. cold, but sunny and dry. made me very happy.
That's why I want to mess with the car in the cold...so I have all spring to drive...not turn the wrench.
That's all I've been doing since the snow started falling!
Matt,
I'll send you an email later in the week. I'm hoping we can hook up next weekend for some beers and see if we can get my rear window installed. The weather is supposed to be nicer.

Losing motivation was the best reason I had someone else (Chuck at Corvettes of Westchester, among others) do most of the big work on my car. After most of the big projects were done by others, I could at least drive the car and do some of the smaller projects myself. I bought the car to drive it, not let it sit in the garage so I could look at a car that was in pieces. Yes, it costs more but in the end I have a car that is 90% done and it only took 8 months do get the engine rebuilt, transmission, paint, interior etc. and that was with others doing it. If I would have done it, I would not have been driving it for the last 2 years!
I understand that some people like the sense of accomplishment and the fact that they did it themselves. I admire those that do, but for me it would never have worked. I got my car painted for 2k and that was stripped to the fiberglass. Yes, it's a first class paint job. I knew the guy and he has done other work for me. It took 6 months for him to do it but it was worth saving the money. He did it over the winter when he had time. People come over to me at car shows and ask who painted it. He's done 4 other vettes since mine because he got recomendations from me.
For those of you who are stuck, maybe having someone else do at least a small portion will help you get motivated again.

Don't farm work out to shops unless you have to. Use the support of your friends. Have them bring the chicken, and you provide the beer and cooking duties. The work will get back on track.
