Both...there is not a lot of room under the car. Consider the pipes are half the size of the 4" pipes and the mufflers are usually BIG and ROUND.

its big pipe but thats wut my headers flow into, i already knew that my ground clearance was going down with 4 inch pipe, but the only thing ive got to worry bout is the speed bumps at the school, but i dont thing thats will b a problem, i get there early enough to just drive throught the parking spots and i leave after 5th hr, so leaving wont b an issue ether,

So you have long tube headers and dual exhaust?

Well you said your headers flow into 4" pipe which is a common collector size for headers. Most exhaust systems use a downsizer to get from 4" to around 2.5" depending on the planned exhaust systems.

Up front there is enough room, but as the system snakes back the ground clearance will lessen somewhat. While you will have room for 4" pipes all the way back...you will have to worry about high crests where you could scrape...pot holes, speed bumps as you said, and rough terrain or gravel.

The big mufflers are sometimes as big as 8" diameter, and those would look a little silly under the back of a Corvette.

im getting side pipes so the 4 inch pipe will come out of the exterior exposed headers, the mufflers are 4 inch diameter to the slide into the pipe and get welded into place

That's exactly right. So now I'm wondering how you were gonna use the diesel pipes and mufflers. Were you going to use the pipe for the side pipes instead of buying the pre-made ones?

I don't know if you can get 4" insert mufflers in the form of Magnas or Flowmasters. There are two very good sounding and popular inserts for the 4" side pipes.

The Sweet thunder and the spiral.

Have you seen these?

The Sweet Thunder is a tube that's the actual muffler that's 'X' in diameter. These are the mufflers. Then, cones are welded to the ends of then that up size the 'X' diameter to 4". Think of a loooong funnel with two cones...one on each end.

I would imagine the spirals are better in a lot of ways...but unless someone has done some dyno testing using both and stock pipe inserts as the control...no one will really know.
