Yeah that's what I figured. I can't understand why it's not lined up right. I used a brand new alignment tool and installed a new pilot bearing. There was no slop in it at all when I mounted the PP.

It is definitly a tight fit and a go no go type of situation. Did you try rocking the trans slightly? sometimes the plate on the front of the trans needs to be aligned correctly with the hole in the bellhousing. If the clutch is off slightly it is a no go though.

Yeah I did try rocking it a bit. I guess I'll go ahead and order everything I need for the linkage and put it all in. I'm going to need to do that anyway.

You didn't read this part of that other note, did you? Of course, you can't have girly man arms to do it.

Yep - tried that. No room under the scissor lift though with the floor jack under there too. I could only move it and inch or two.

Welp. I got it in there. It was quite a bitch, but she's there. I was only shy by about 1/4 of an inch so it wasn't as much as I thought. Once I knew I had the pilot bearing stabbed, I got pretty nasty with it. Now for the linkage.

We used to put the trans in gear and then turn the output yoke to and fro a bit while always pushing, trying to send the trans home, most times it worked,, but I see that you finally did drive it home,,,,good luck with the rest of the job,,,Peace,,,Moosie

Thanks guys. Does anyone know of any good links that may have diagrams of how to install all the linkage?

If you have the assembly manual it is pretty well spelled out there.

I got everything together, but of course there's a problem. I think I may have to change motor mounts back to a stock style instead of the solid ones I bought. The problem is that when you put it in second gear, the shifter hits the console plate and won't go in gear. I have to shim the tranny over about an inch and a half and that's not gonna happen with those solid mounts. I had to force the trans over to even get the bolts in the tranny mount.
Anyone ever run into this?

I've seen this with some aftermarket motor mounts (not square, apparently) and with bent frames. The frame horns that mount the engine can get bent. Depending on how far off, you many have to visit a frame straightener.

If you use an old input shaft as a clutch alignment tool, it will line up perfectly and you don't have to mess with depressing the clutch. A good quality alignment tool works well too. But, I have seen some of those cheap wood tools fit loosely.

I have never touched the clutch pedal during a transmission installation and never had a problem.
