I 've been using water to remove the paint stripper residue from my car (as well as a scotch bright pad). I would like to double up the process with some lacquer thinner. What type of thinner do you recommend...just the ordinary stuff from Home Depot? Do I use a rag soaked in lacquer thinner and just wipe on/wipe off to remove contaminants? Will this stuff need to be removed with water after use...or is it safe on fiberglass panels?
When I stripped mine I also wiped it down with water and the lacquer thinner that is sold at Home Depot for $10 dollars a gallon. Just be careful not to use it around a gas water heater if its in your garage that stuff is extremely flammable.
When I stripped my Vette I used the stripper and then neutralized that with soap and water and then I used a scotch brite pad and lacquer thinner and then washed with soap and water and the fiberglass was real clean.
Stop by your local auto paint supply shop and ask them for their cheapest "wash" thinner. The last time I got a gallon of Nason brand it was under $8.00.
