I admire your spirit on this job. I wouldn't mind doing this to my '69 some day. It's not like it's ever going to be numbers matching again (although I have kept all the parts). Pls keep good records of costs and progress and share it with the team here - it would be a great "how-to" for others in the future!!!

Betcha! I know to the penny what I've got in it right now. Some of the things will be overlap, or things that needed to be done anyway. For instance, it needed painted anyway. One of the things that moved my timetable way up on this was wanting to do the body work just once.
If some one with nice paint did this, they'd have to factor the cost of paint in with the conversion parts.

I have no paint yet
That's what really makes me think about this. I have a great chassis but have yet to start on bodywork except for some paint stripping.
Bought mine from Vanacor's located a little more than an hour south of me. ACI also sells the deck and lid
vanacorvette.com and acivette.com
Thanks good info. Do you think it would be possible to make a detailed list after it is all done of what parts are needed and where to find all of them?
I am sure there are some of us that would be interested in doing this to a late year C3. in the future.

I was going to do this to my 82CE, the halo was tweaked anyway from a bump before I bought it.
I figured I could recover some of the cost by selling the hatch.
It would have been cool to have the only CE vert.
But then I traded it for a 98 vert...
I'm in the Columbus area too. I thought about doing that conversion myself. If you need any help with anything, let me know.
Tom
Nice! Tom, I appreciate the offer!
I seen a poster for the Columbus Corvette Club car show they have every year. The shows indoors in the Fair Oaks mall. I'm not a member or anything, but last year those guys had 35 or 40 nice 'vettes up and down the hallways there. Last weekend in April, I think. I know I always enjoy goin' and checking things out.
Drive safe!

Are you planing on changing the side window glass? Vert glass in back is more of an angle where coupes are 90 degrees.
Yes, I'm planning on replacing the door glass. I was having a real hard time finding matching side glass, and when they matched each other the price was sky high. I've found an on line supplier that sells the glass for $150 each. That's cheaper than I'd seen a matching set on e-bay. The stuff that's re-popped I'm not too worried about. I can order that anytime. It was the hard to find original things I was trying to source early.

John,
I've still got that 68 glass. If there is anyway to find out if it'll fit and you want it, I'll hold on to it for you.
If you want to take care of the shipping I'll send one to you to check.
Rick, I'd forgotten all about that! You know, I don't have a clue as to whether a '68 window will work. Let me do a little research and see if I can find someone who knows for sure. I really don't know what the difference is between '68 and the rest. Sometimes that's helpful for finding out if it will work or not.
I've found two or three things that weren't listed as fitting mine, but bolted on just fine.
I believe the crossover guides will tell you what fits as long as the item is numbers and year correct. Sometimes I just want the down and dirty as to whether 'it' will work or not. (what ever 'it' is I'm looking for at the moment) Thanks, Rick!
John
The fact that your using a 68 rear deck lid and me not knowing what year your top frame is, is why I offered a test fit.
I know that catalogs (Eklers) has the 68 glass listed seperate from all the rest, but that might not apply in this case.
I've heard that repo'd glass dosen't fit as well, I think I read thinner?
Rick
The 68 glass will only work with 68's and early 69's
The way the glass mounts is different.
I would be interested in purchasing, if Seventysixvette
cant use them.
Lyle's right, there is a plate at the bottom in a pic I seen. Mine doesn't have those plates. Whether the plates/glass as a whole would fit my doors/track assemblies I don't know. I'd need to get those bottom mounting plates and the glass and just pull my doors apart and phyisically try them.

Yeah, I've read a couple posts that said the re-popped glass is thinner.
I looked through a Corvette America catalog last night, they have a listing for replacement glass that gives a part number for side glass that fits '68-'75. That's the only listing I've found that does that. All the rest splits the years out.
Any listing for top frames I've ever seen, whether new or used always says '68-'75. I really don't think there was any difference in them. Which means all the door glass would at least have the same shape meeting the frame seals.
John
I agree that the 68 glass is the same on the part you see and meets the top. If you got all the 68 hardware with the glass I would think it would work for sure. The window glass should be a piece of cake compared to the rest of the job. The mounting for the top are you using doner parts?
