Default Shock restoration

I have been searching for information on shocks. I want to be origional, Delco, BlueGray, dated, Coded, etc. I guess my questions are:

1. Does anyone mfg. restoration (correct) shocks? If so who?

2. If no one reporoduces them, then how to you replace the OEM and still be origional?

I have seen the paint and stickers for sale, do you just get a set of the Catalog Delco's and paint them?

Many of the aftermarket Corvette supply places still sell hydraulic Delco shocks for C3's. I can't tell you if they are exact duplicates. Hopefully, someone in the NCRS will give you that feedback. If they are the same except for the labels, the supply places also sell them.

I bought a set of delco gas shocks, painted them blue/gray attached the little labels that came from the factory like the original shocks did. Not sure, but unless you are going for the 100% NCRS restoration points enchilada, you won't be nicked for too many points if you do it this way. JMHO. I'm not sure if date coded shocks are even part of the judging protocols as the original shocks were used in many applications. Others with more knowledge then I, please weigh in on this.

Good luck!

What are you looking for? My car still has the original shocks on it....dead but original. Are you looking for a particular date code or part number?

I just wanted to see if anyone knew of a source for a new restoration shocks, becuase my search comes up empty. I did find the repros in Shawnee, KS, but way too much money.

The NCRS book says they will not judge the dates if they cannot see them. But you never know if the judge has one of those super powerful magnascopes that can see the hairs on a nats a$$ at 100 miles.

So without any other restoration correct parts out there, I wanted to know what others were doing to replace there dead shocks...

Have you ever looked at how hard it would be to see any type of date codes on a pair of shocks? The front shocks themselves are inside the coil springs. I would focus on getting as close a match to the originals in appearance, paint them, add the factory labeling, and call it good. At that point, any judge that would call BS on you, is BS themselves!
