I think he was referring to the rear deck lid. The one you lift when putting down the convertible top.

Another source of water into the cabin in the back is the rear vents that are behind the rear deck. There is a rubber hose that goes from the vent wells to the outside of the car. If the rubber hoses get old and crack then water seeps into the car. Right where the number 4 body mounts are, and where the springs that hold the rear deck up are located. The hose I believe you can get from the Corvette vendors. But they are tough to replace.

Toss those seat rails in white vinegar for a few days.

went with white vinager, couldnt find the washing powder needed for the other approach.

i was quite sceptical that it would work, but ill be damnd, it seems to be working quite well. ive had them soaking for 24 hours and they already look much better. i think im going to let them soak for 48-72 hrs and see how they look then.

Another product to look at, and I am not sure of its other properties so you might want to check them out, is Super Iron Out.

You'll find it more often in rural area's that have well water.

I've never used it on anything automotive but it eats rust and turns it into magnesium sludge that just washes away.

I had a part for my sprinkler system that was caked in rust, you could not even tell what it was. Mixed up a bucket of this stuff, threw it in the bucket. 10 minutes later it looked brand new. This was stuff that was caked on for 1/2 an inch or so.

Default You can do this!

Interior overhaul was my first project on my 73. I started out by pulling the seats to vacum under then and within 4 hours had the entire car gutted!

I learned a lot of tips through this forum and saved tons on money by knowing a few particulars.
- Be carefull to NOT break anything where possible. A broken headlight switch - $50, broken rear storage frame - $$, etc....These costs will add up!
- Look for replacment items on sale and buy when you see heavy discounts. I needed new polished/chrome seat hinges and found a new pair on sale for $150 for the set - saved $$$.
- Try to make a list and order all your parst at once - save on S&H!!
- Use Wilcox for items like seat covers, carpet, etc as they have great prices and much cheaper than the big name vendors. IMO
- Run your speaker wire now while you have the dash apart. Same for the antenna cable if you are planning to replace.
- I cleaned, primed and spray dye'd all my interior pieces and it looks brand spanking new (Simple Green works weel for this).
- Order a new interior screw ste, light bulb set and lenses for the dash and console - this will clean eveything up to new.
- You probably will not be able to reinstall your seat belts - VERY costly to repalce these - hundreds of $$$$
- I had my seat rails and frames media blasted, and then primed/painted the frames and recovered the seatst myself - tough job but slow and steady will work. Feels like wrestling a 300lb man - I guess.
- Carpet install is easy buy you have to wrestle and use a good tacky spray adhesive such as 3M, etc. Let the carpet lay out for day and it will install easy, with a few cuts...cut slowly and a little and a time - just trust me.
- I used a satin black spray paint (Krylon or Duplicolor) for all the bezels, console plate and they look brand new!!!! I did not even clear coat - just regular satin black.

BIGGEST TIP - Check all electric before putting the interior back together....you can find any shorts, electrical drains, replace needed fuses, switchs etc. Clean up the wires, tape together, etc as this will make things much when you go to put things back together.

Any more info on Wilcox? Searched internet and found 1A Auto Parts when I googled Wilcox.

Is the satin black the same as the semi-flat black? I discover it years ago when installing factory A/C and was amazed at how it matched the factory paint.

Were your seat hinges beyond repair as you could rechrome them for less than $150?

I'm in the middle of the same thing.

Wire brushed the floor, new seam sealer, and painted it black. Bought Reflectix for the heat problem. Lots of new parts waiting to go back in. Interior will be dyed red & black w/custom red & black seats, red carpet up front, black in back w/red compartments.

Goal is July 12th to make it to a local car cruise. I can't wait to drive it again.

I had a big surprise removing the center console.

my '77's original and i don't see mush rust in the interior anywhere...probably because it has almost always been a florida car. but it probably wouldn't hurt to check the floor pans because the drain plugs go bad after so long.
