454HO Up & Running Install Pics
Some of the minor problems with install:
1. Had to modify LS6 intake heat shield to fit the Gen 6 valley
2. Centre link hit Moroso pan on hard lock
3. Incorrect parts cost 2 weeks down time waiting for replacements, especially pulleys, LH exhaust manifold and the upper radiator brackets & rubber mounts that I forgot to order....
4. LH side pipe was manufactured wrong....only 2" clearance....simple heat and bend up, but this is the 2nd set of pipes that I've had to have altered due to poor quality of parts....
5. Lost 3/4" in height on front....Moroso pan only has 90mm clearance....uprated aftermarket springs installed 3 years ago are not up to the task...I've ordered 550lb GM springs which will be installed soon....
The bracket supporting the MSD 6AL box was shaped to the inner fender well and the box can be removed without removing the bracket.....BB alternator pulleys are different than SB, instead of waiting for another part I decided to pack the alternator forward, mainly so I can install taller valve covers.....had to have 2 of the brackets refabricated to do this, but it will be worth it....the black covers have to go
Also, I polished the expansion tank for the photo....

The Gen 6 block has no boss for the Z-bar, so this bracket is required. Also, the Z-bar needs to be cut down to fit...there's good info on the Forum on how to do this....

Runs cooler than the 350 with new radiator, fan & shroud incl seals, & water pump....noticeably hotter in cabin though !!!!

Only problem I've had was starting it yesterday after sitting for 3 days....I've learned that an 800 double pumper needs a lot more "food" than the 600 on my 350

Thanks to the Forum for the advice
Thanks, Dave

They clear roller rockers with a double cork gasket like Fel-Pro 1630.
Thanks, Dave
After all that work moving the alternator forward, I'm thinking it might be possible to modify the vacuum can
Hope you're enjoying the motor as much as I have so far

Looks awesome standup. I'm sure you'll be quite happy now, I know I was. Is that 454HO a roller cam?
How much needs to be trimmed off the Z-bar? I never heard of that being needed.
I have tried a set of Early OEM covers, they were about 1/2 to short. Then I got a set from N.P.D(national Parts depot) they were about 3/4 in. to tall. I measured the OEM ones they were 2-1/2 in. so I think I need something in the 3inch to 3-1/2 inch range. These were inside measurements by laying a straight edge across the bottom of the cover to the top of the cover. Most of the tall ones I have found are 4inch tall. I will have to check on the ones Zwede sent the link for, see if I can get some measurements.

It's a hydraulic roller cam.....duration is 211 int / 230 ex...lift is .510 int / .540 ex...nothing too beasty or lumpy but it's still a nice street motor....the rest of the specs are here: http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/En...8774&engCat=bb
With 8.75:1 & side pipes it's alot quieter than my 9.3:1 350 with sides, but it still has a nasty growl to it
Since the location of the ball stud changes because of the bracket, the Z bar isn't square off the block, so it needs to be trimmed......the amount to trim is probably dependant on the car, but in my case it was the thickness of the bracket plus the gap between the block & the bracket....about 3/4".......
