I found a set of door pannels for my 81 but they are the wrong colour, i know i can dye the main part of the pannel but does anyone know if the carpet can be removed and changed or dyed also.
You can certainly remove and replace the carpet with pre-cut carpet wedges. Many of the vendors listed on this site sell this carpet. I don't know if you'd be able to dye it. I ordered the carpet for my doors and took them in to a upholstry shop. I think it was $15 to replace the carpet on the doors. Good luck.
SEM automotive interior dye. Any good automotive paint supplier will be carrying SEM and should be able to mix a quart for you. Rattle can dye can also be used, but these are usually generic colors and may not give you a perfect color match.
Redying carpet is likely to give you mixed results: works for some, looks lousy for others.
You might be able to take your existing door panel carpet and swap it to your new panels. It's probably glued in place. Experiment by removing the carpet from the new panels before you dye them.
