Default C3 comfort

I would like to get some info on different year C3's as far as comfort.

I called about a C3 that was for sale today, but it was sold. In talking to the guy he said that the latter yr. seats(I think 79 to 82) were harder on your back than the previous yrs.

This was disappointing to me because I was looking for a 82 due to the overdrive transmission.

I would appreciate comments on this along with any other info that would make some yrs more comfortable than others. What about the plastic vs. steel springs.

The later seats are more comfortable than the earlier seats for sure.

The seats in my 79 are similar to 82 and way more comfortable than the seats in my 69. The 69 seats were replaced with 03 seats due to comfort issues.

Believe me, the seats in the 78 pace car and later thru 82, finally got some support and are the most comfortable. The late C3's may not be the most powerful from the factory, but they are the most refined.

Best I've heard it put when it comes to seats in the C3 -

You can drive 30 miles in a 68 - 78 and it will feel like 300; drive 300 miles in a 79 - 82 and it will feel like 30.

I can only speak for the 79 - 82 and yes, the seats feel great! Note, the 78 Pace car got the "newer" seats, a preview of sorts for the 79 - 82.

Concerning your note on the OD for the '82. You'll like that as well. Mine turns about 26 MPG on a straight highway run. 70 MPH = 2K RPM.

Everyone that sits in my 79 says the seats feel very comfortable. The 79-82 are the same. Also, the 78 pace car have the same seats. I would have no problem driving mine 600-700 miles in a day with them. The only downfall is there is no adjusting the backrest, the angle they are in is the only angle option you get.

on that guy.

I swapped my '75 seats for a set from an '81. Drove the car from WA to RI and back again. Much more comfortable.

Don't limit your choices because of stock seats. You can always add seats from a different year, different vehicle or any number of aftermarket seats.

Yes, they're fine.

I put '80 seats in my '73, and had the same design in my '80 & '81. The "pace car" design seats of '79-'82 are very comfortable, and much better than the earlier models.

Still keeping the '69 all stock, though.

C3 and comfort might be an oxymoron. Let's be honest. Sharks are not Caddies or Suburbans. I have one of each and can tell you the split back buckets used 79-82 are more comfortable on long rides than the standard 68-77 seats. Just the same, I am not going to pull the original pair out of my '68 and install split backs.

...What about the plastic vs. steel springs...
Fiberglass springs ride better and get rid of the 'rocks in your pocket' ride of the steel spring cars. Making the swap to a fiberglass rear spring is worth the cost.

My 81 power drivers seat is great the passengers seat is a little low so when my wife is sitting in the car I have to put a pillow so she can see over the dash.
