TO EACH HIS OWN..........
I bought a neglected 72 convertible that would never see "original" again in anyone's dreams. I have been working on it for a while now and virtually everything I do is "modded". I don't have the money or the skills to turn this old girl back to original. Nor do I have the desire.
I have the greatest respect and admiration for those with the skills and budget to return and maintain a classic at original status.
Will my convertible ever win a car show? No. Will it ever be 100 percent operational? No. Will it ever be perceived as a good investment? If we're talking money here, then the answer is no.
But if an investment can be measured in something besides dollars, then the answer is yes, absolutely.
I have been posting on this forum for over five years now. If you want to know what I and many others here are really about:

The main reason I mod is because I'm a speed junkey, but the second is I couldn't handle a true and proper resto, I'm not patient enough. The endless searches for the right parts, chalk marks, date codes ect. If I tried, I'd end up institutionalized before it was done. Much respect for those that do

what ever turns you on you should do............but i have had my fill of inferior original designs.......thats why my 77 has a modified 4 bolt main,700r4, 1/4" thick trailing arms and steeroids,etc,etc,etc....and the 69 tilt front well thats just way over the top......
I tried to restore it but my chiltons manual got wet and well I filled in here and there from Hot rod mags and ,,,,,,,
Well it's close,,, Ya think,, kinda.

A heavily modded vehicle, done without taste, quality of work or shabby parts will, in most cases be worth less.
However, small mods, improvements, upgrades with high quality parts, probably won't affect the price in a negative way. Unless you happen to have a buyer looking for an all original car. But most people are starting to realize that after almost 40 years, there have been a few advancements in technology that can improve the performance, efficiency and reliability of all cars.
If custom cars aren't your cup of tea, that's fine, but don't get a chapped *** and take it out on the people that don't agree. I'm not ever going to tell anyone they should or shouldn't add to their car. But anyone that tries to tell me what I should or shouldn't do should talk to a brick wall. Better chance of someone listening to them babble on.
I don't care if I had one of the only two ZL1's, if I had at my disposal parts that would improve the car, you can bet your last dollar I'd add them.
One last thought, cars in general, are terrible investments. Unless you are buying rare or exotics, the market for them is going to tank in a big way in a few years.
I might respectfully disagree to some extent. My car was originally a 1976 green on green l48, nothing to be desired as corvettes go. It is now Red with black interior, streetable cammed and tunnel rammed engine, with hooker side pipes and cragars. If I were to sell it today I'm sure it would bring far more than it would stock. A lot of it depends on the age of the car and how desirable of a package it was from the factory. I also think its way more money to build a correct original car than a modified car.
that is such a choice ride (im a fellow 76'r)
well done. (drool)
