I agree with your sound comment 1Z87L8 but it is sometimes hard to make a judgment call on how an exhaust sounds from a recorded clip. That's why I was hoping someone had installed and tested one of these systems.
Alexandra, are you ready to sell your side pipe covers?

i know its hard to make a judgement but i have heard
recorded flowmaster and magnaflow clips of all different
mufflers and they sound great compared to the mufflers
in the pypes clips.
the pypes mufflers sound like the old midas brand turbo
mufflers from the early 80s
I thought about the PYPES header back system also but I just want the pipes, their mufflers sound like A$$ on the clips... I will throw some of the new Flowmaster 44s on there and 73' 2.5" factory tips

That was my plan. Couldn't wait, had a shop fab up my system.
I don't think I would buy something for the 'vette from a company who uses RICER spelling for their corporate name.
not trying to start anything, but what exactly is a "ricer" spelling. I think that is a pretty ridiculous thing to say...there's about a million company's out there that change spellings to make the brand more memorable. You may not like it, but I guarantee it worked on you...you'll always remember "pypes". So by pissing you off their marketing department just scored a victory in the brand awareness department. You should probably never drink 7up, or nestle's quik...judging by the ricer spellings they have, they probably contain ricerness and could make you want a 4 cyl car.
everyone stop using ricer on anything you feel like...it doesn't work like that.
Approximately 18 systems were shipped out about 2 weeks ago. We know several have been installed because we got several tech call installation questions. Here is some information we have gathered.
1. Two customers asked about the square tips found on some of the 70-73? cars. At this point, Pypes hasn't made these style tips since they seem to be readily available for very reasonable price. Since all the testing was done on a 1977, it is possible that the mufflers may need to be exchanged for a different offset configuration for better tip fit. This would also require the rewelding of the muffler hanger to the muffler instead of its current position welded to the downturn tip.
2. Header cars may require an extra step to complete the connection to the system. This is common on all 'header back' systems. Most header mfgs don't make exhaust systems and most system mfgs don't make headers. Every header mfg designs their headers differently and consequently almost none of the collectors are positioned the same. Therefore it is impossible for Pypes to design custom fit collector extensions for each header mfg. If the header collectors face straight back and are at the same height as the crossmember tube openings, then the connection wil be quite easy. Otherwise, some type of custom pipe will need to be fashioned to connect your reducers to the X-pipe extensions of the Pypes system.
If you are experiencing either of these issues, although it is an extra step, remember that this is a 'performance' based system designed to cover quite a few years so we could keep the price reasonable. It's still the only 2.5" mandrel bent X-pipe system on the market. We hope that these inconveniences are outweighed by the performance, quality and value you get from this system.

Glen, Pypes is a spin off of a company called Performance Years, often referred to as PY. P=performance E=exhaust s=systems Hence Performance Years Performance Exhaust Systems. but we think Pypes is easier to say and remember

Video sound clips are almost worthless but we constantly get requests for them. the motor, cam and headers all change the sound of the system dramatically. The test car had a base L48 350 motor. You're not going to win any awards for sound with that base motor. I dont' care who's muffler is on there. Also, the X-pipe affects the sound. Here is a guide for Pypes mufflers and sound comparisons:
Street Pro= Flowmaster 40, super 40 and 44. Chambered sound decent flow but with a little less resonance.
Race Pro= DynoMax UltraFlow, Magnaflow. deep rumble excellent flow leaning toward the quiet side except when you get on it!
Violator= unique in industry. The sound of a very aggressive chambered muffler but with the flow of a 'straight thru'.

Rich, I agree that the sound videos are not that impressive. However, read my post above for the reasoning. If you liked the magnaflow clips, you'll like the Race Pro. If you liked the FM clips, you'll like the Street Pro.

Good info...so your Street Pro muffler is the equivalent to a Flowmaster 40-44 series....Is it strictly a chambered muffler or does it have the fiberglass packing in it also? Do they flow better then the flowmasters? This might be exactly what I am looking for...Gonna be ona 500+hp small block
It would be REALLY nice if you guys did an install on a 68-73 or better yet, 70-73 with the factory style tips installed. Put the entire kit together(with tips) and I bet you could sell a ton of them here. Then guys could just bolt it on without a trip to the muffler shop.

Yes, that's a fair comparision. No fiberglass. However, our chamber design allows for about 15% better flow and little quieter with less resonance. Also, keep in mind that on the C3, resonance is greater than most muscle cars. A 500hp small block is going to have some noticable resonance at certain rpm levels.
We will gladly accept a doner 70-73 car in a heartbeat. Spread the word.
