I want t clean the inside of my frame out, I'll be sandblasting the outside of the frame and powdercoating it. Is there anything wrong with getting the frame acid dipped? What are the pros and cons of getting it dipped?
I've been smacking the side of the frame with a mallet and then blowing out the rails with compressed air...is this good enough? I was thinking of maybe cutting out 2 inch squares in each rail so I can somehow coat the rails with por15 or some other kind of other rust preventative product. Has anyone coated the inside of their frame rails? How did you go about it? Did you use por15?
I was thinking about spraying por15 inside the frame, but how do I go about their three step process? Should I use the marine clean and metal ready, then flush out the frame with water, wait a week for it to all dry then spray the por15 with a wand? Or should I just go straight to the por15 after I knock off all the rust and scale from inside (that is after i blow it all out)?
If you're gonna put POR15 inside, just use that.
The Marine clean is to remove grease/oil. (not much inside the rail)
The Metal Ready is to etch smooth shiney metal. (None in there)
So, the rusted surface is ready for POR15.
Rather than that, I would consider a wax-based anti-rust treatment.
My parts store sells it ... and the sprayer to apply it.
