I'm guessing that the white wires are "circuit IN" and "circuit OUT", and the orange wire is switched 12v. to power it. When you turn the key ON, the circuit starts operation.
You dont have to do anything with the orange -leave it in the connector-its protected from ground.Just make sure you get rid of the round silver timer.Those 2 black connectors are there for the purpose of bypassing and making it a "non" delay system.
If you feel the need to do something with the orange wire-just cut it and tape the end-the orange is hot all the time.Cut the black also if you want and you can remove the connector for the timer that will leave you only the male and female on the white wires that are part of the main harness--put those 2 together and your done.

7T1 Actually the orange is hot all the time.In 78 they added another wire a pink one that is hot with the key on.The pink one turns the int. lights off as soon as the key is turned on.On the old one the lights stay on until the timer runs out.(30 sec.)
Your right on the white that is the ground circuit in and out of the timer.
