Default clear coat intake ???

I just bead blasted a edelbrock aluminum manifold and would like to keep it looking nice. is there a high heat clear I could spray on it. I have heard of people painting their engines with regular base/clear automotive paint. would regular automotive clear work?

i would not trust regular clear on the intake. a very good option is to take or send the intake to a shop that does perfornace high heat coatings like jet hot or similar. there are a lot of companies doing this now and the upside is it will help with keeping the intake cooler on top of making it look nice.

Everytime I have seen someone clear an intake, it turns yellow or greenish. I would not clear it. Just keep it clean with carb cleaner.

A friend of mine is going to clear powder coat his. Sounds like a good idea. It'll be interesting to see how it holds up.

clear coat will turn yellow on you.
Either powder coat it the color you want or leave it raw and just keep it clean. if it gets dirty brake cleaner works well to clean off stains such as any fuel leaks from the carb, etc

Haven't tried it on an intake, but modellers swear by Future floor wax for their clear coats specifically because it doesn't yellow like clear paint. It's actually not wax, but an acrylic coating. I use it on new cast iron that I want to keep raw looking and to keep it from rusting. The outside of a master cylinder, for example. It doesn't hold up to solvents (fuel, brake fluid), but it's easy to clean and re-apply. I use a small touch-up gun or airbrush depending on the size of the piece.

I've tried two different brands and both yellowed within a few thousand miles.

I talked with a local powdercoat place and they told me the coating wont hold up to gas spilled on it. Hard to do carb tuning without spilling a little gas around so mine stayed raw.

several very light dustings with aluminum silver high heat engine enamel will seal the pores and stay the same color without that "painted" look. It makes the intake easy to keep clean.

My friend has powder coated parts for his 69 and baked them in his kitchen oven and they came out great.
