Well....SUCCESS!!!!!!
I finnally got it in, and though I feel the fit could be better it came out OK.
Took the entire day to do both, took my time and I would say that mine probably looks as good as most of the others out there.
Any way, I'm happy overall.
Thanks for the help guys.

Just be patient my did not fit good either it was from auto custom carpets.
Yep.
I just re-did my carpet last month. I bought mine from Ecklers who has ACC as their vendor (who actually make it).
Mine was very confusing too. The kick panels were comical It was like they had a 4 year old cut them by memory from a 1997 Suburban. Kindof sucky but...I did manage and it looks good now.
Hope it stays where you want it!

I've bought the Ecklers carpet (not sure who makes it) for two Corvettes. It wasn't a "perfect fit" out of the box either time, but a little patience and a $10 heat gun got it right.
No, it didn't. The fit was usually OK, but even then, I have seen some pretty lousy carpet installations originally done by the guys in St. Louis over the years.
[quote]Maybe you MUST use thick insulation between the carpet and the body to make it fit right ????[QUOTE]
It certainly helps, but again, it isn't going to lie perfectly flat even with the jute backing under it... Close, but not perfect. My guess is that if you take your time... Trim, cut, fit and then repeat the process, you'll get a pretty decent fit after a while... Most likely a better fit than the factory ever did.
I really didn't use much adhesive. Mainly at the top of the wall in back of the seats.
For the compartment doors I simply replaced the panels with wood of the same thickness, cut to fit the doors. I then layed each piece of carpet on each door and trimmed to fit.
I shot some screws in around the sides, and mounted them on the hinges.

What about the very back wall. did you glue that?? I have a 77 and the back piece has 2 flaps that flip around the boudy mount area. ????

Ok so i was wrong.. The carpet does go to the top.... Im going to glue it at the top to hold it up. but thats about it i think. I have layed all the carpet in the car to let is sit in there for a while before i make any cuts.,Looks to be a lot of triming by the seat areas and by the compartment area. But is sure looks nice in there with all the trim painted. sure looks new. Still no stereo stuff in the car yet. All wired and ready to go though. Nice thing is all this interior stuff comes out and goes in easy. Its the cutting that im worried about right now.. Measure 5 times cut 1.....
ANyone have any tips on trimming the carpet for a 77
Something I learned when I put the floor pieces in. DO NOT TRIM THE SILL MATERIAL UNTIL THE SEATS ARE IN AND BOLTED DOWN!!!!
As I was securing my seats I noticed that the material at the sills was getting shorter with every turn of the wrench, due to the fact that as the seat goes down the carpet gets compressed.
Luckily I had just enough left to secure under the sill.

Ok so i have gotten to the front seats and i go to install them and i notice that they have a area that would be under the seat that i dont have under my seats....so i think i have the wrong front seat cuts from AK.....Cause they sure dont fit right....the back section fits fine so far.. I havent dont the storage area yet but it looks like its going to be ok..the wheel wells came out good... My amp is goping to hold the back are up so wont need to glue or anything.
I don't recall who I got mine from, but take your time, dry fit all the pieces first, smooth and adjust as necessary BEFORE you trim and glue anything. I've worked with fabrics and such for several years. It just takes time and patience. I spent the better part of a day re-carpeting the whole interior.

Well i have fit everything and this is just not right..
as you can see there is a big valley in the middle of the center of the carpet. Like where my butt would be. But as you can see there is no valley ????? Is it me ??? or the carpet?
I've been following this thread while I'm doing my 71'. I have carpet from Al Knock and the fit wasn't that great (at least the rear). I did finially get it to fit right by using a heat gun as was suggested. Looks good now. Still need to do the front.
