I have seen a few flat black or primer paint jobs (on ricers). No corvettes thank goodness. because it says one thing, "I dont' have the money to finish it right now". And they all think it is cool. I know this one kid who won "a" trophy at a car show for his ricer with a primer paint job. I'm talking hardware store bought rustolium. Sorry I just don't get it!
Harley is using the matte black finish on some of their motorcycles and I heard that it is a powder coating finish. That would be very durable but expensive.
I used to bracket-race with a guy who had a tube-chassised '99 T/A built for himself, and after taking-delivery, we dropped the motor-trans in, and he went racing, with the fiberglass body still in Flat Black gel-coat (I think? ):
I know it sounds crazy, but that car looked down-right mean & business-like on the track, and although "I'd" never go that route myself, I can understand others being infatuated with the look.....
The flat black look is in no uncertain terms not for everyone. I don't know about it nearing the end of it's run though. After all it's been around forever. It's on "rat rods" which are very popular right now and it's playing to a whole new crowd in the DUB wheel craze. You see everything from big SUVs to Mercedes in flat black. If anyone went to SEMA there was a Benz at one of the wheel booths in flat black and what would be chrome was in gloss black. This in a pour picture but take a look. http://imgup-lb.automotive.com:8080/....w275.h160.jpg Again I'm not endorsing it just saying whether you like it or not it's there.
WOW !!!
Is that paint or primer.
Please say paint. I was planning to go black matte when I repaint my car. I have seen a motorcycle with matte black. The black had some texture on it
