It is cold out side and I am trying to get the carpet around the battery door not to have such bad wrinckles. I can't seem to get it to smooth out.

If you can snap a picture and post it I think I know what you are saying and hopefully me or others here can help.

The key is warmth. If it is cold then this might be tougher. Do you have a warm place you can put the car for a couple of hours and or a space heater you can use to heat up the area safely? Mine laid out nicely one I sat her in the sun for a few hours one Saturday before install, then she fell in like butter. Let us know and we'll do our best to help.

I pulled them out on my 76, did some welding on the rusted floor pans and placed them back in. If you have the formed type of carpet they just like slid right in. Realy easy and I am only 16.

this is molded carpet and it is wrinkled all around the storage doors. I was just wondering if anyone had had this problem and was it because it is cold. Perhaps it will sort out when the weather warms up. it has been about 12 degrees outside. and I am 51

I would think it might be adhessive isn't holding it down, or that is what it looks like to me. I am 55 and can tell you my garage and I don't see a lot of each other now that the temps are well below freezing. I pray a lot for an early spring.

After I had installed the side and back T panels panels I put the storage compartment back down to check the fit. It bunched up. I did a little trimming around the storage compartment to get a good finish between the carpet and the compartment. I do remember the carpet wanting to bunch on the sides of the compartment just about where yours is in the picture. I just made sure they were glued down and then used the storage compartment frame to get the carpet not to pinch too much against the frame. No rolling over here, the top trim of the storage frame will go over the carpet. If your carpet extends too far inside the hole where you frame goes it may try to push it back out and cause wrinkles or bunching.

I would try removing your storage compartment top frame and work with the carpet to lay down using adhessive and trimming to match the opening. Once it is lying down smoothly with the adhessive bonded you should be good to put the frame back and should be good to go.

I hope this helps.

Best of success.

I agree. We used it for the holes and it did a great job for making holes in the back and then using the plugs to hold the carpet up. Pugs and plug tool made that job much easier as well.

Good stuff

Interior as it was nearing completion.

Hey David really nice job. Getting ready to do my 77 Question did you use glue on the carpets and if so what kind and also where did you get that sweet speaker cabinet?

Additionally, i had to drill out the screws holding the sill plates and then had to re-tap the holes. No biggie, just another PITA in the restoration process....
I never even tried Al Knoch carpets but if they are the same as his convertible tops , good luck. I have installed many convertible tops and his are the worst. I have seen several problems with his tops. I started installing one recently and it was cut way too short and the side edge beading was pulled too tight on one side that when they sewed it it caused ripples that couldn't be pulled out and the stitching was crooked. I ripped it off and threw it away and sent for a Robbins top which I never had problems with. Just be aware that his products are hit and miss.

Cant overstate this. My car came with some CHEAP replacement carpet.... every time I remove one of the seats, I tear the carpet. Accidentally drop a screwdriver in the footwell and jam into it with your foot....more tears. Avoid the cheap shi+.

Thanks for the video. my 73 has the retractor seatbelt mechanism under the seat. then the belt has to run through the carpet. I have seen some that put the plastic protector box for the seatbelt over the carpet. If I don't do this...how do people run the belts though the carpet.

Changing the carpet in my ‘73 was a miserable task... I used an ACC “GM replacement” brand kit and it was awful. I eventually got it installed and it looks pretty good but.. finally had to give up on the wheel arches in the back as the molded carpet was no where close to correct. I ended up using a black fleece material on the wheel arches and it looks great now.
Itll be a long time (as in never) before I change the carpet in my C3 again. mardyn

Thanks to all of you for answering and especially for the tips! I'll give it a good cleaning first but I'm pretty sure it will need replacing. Thanks again and I hope you're still enjoying a happy Thanksgiving.
