for the documentation gurus
I'm in the research phase of my Corvette experience... meaning I am still looking for the right 70-72 and permission from my wife

There's a very collectible '71 in my sights which has low miles, seller owned since 1980, but limited documentation. I'm not sure yet, but the tank sticker is probably on the car. Other than registration and title, there is not much documentation.
My question is, what value is there in getting an affidavit from previous owners stating mileage when they bought/sold the car? It's a three owner car and I may be able to get back to owner #2. Is this a means for documenting owner history? Is it valuable and acceptable to judges? If indeed it is a low miles car, with desirable options, I'd like to maximize it's value as a collector car. I would intend to enjoy it for many years, but when I'm done it should still be a high value car if I treat it right.
If I take such a car to NCRS for Survivor status, will certain documents be necessary?
Please comment.
Thanks,
Greg

I'm a member of NCRS but I've never had any of my cars judged. With that said, here are my comments:
Question #1. The only value I can see is that previous owner affidavits might help the next buyer decide if they believe the mileage on the odometer.
Question #2. Its better than nothing but not as good as copies of the previous titles.
Question #3. No. Judges don't judge affidavits, they judge cars. There is no section on the judging sheet for the judges to evaluate previous owner affidavits. Therefore affidavits are a non-factor as far as the judges are concerned.
Question #4. Survivor status is just another form of judging. Again, previous owner affidavits are a non-factor. I believe the only document that is required is proof of insurance and a valid registration. Other than that, the documentation that was delivered with the car when it rolled off the assembly line is desireable but not necessary.
You will probably get more insight to your questions if you post them on the NCRS forum.
