It varies by area, I paid $400 to get a TH250 rebuilt a few years ago. I would check with the local parts store and see what it would cost for a rebuilt unit and do a swap out.......be a whole lot faster.

How much to rebuild a tranny...or how much to have it rebuilt? Rebuilding one yourself is relatively inexpensive...if you have the area, tools, equipment and know-how to do it. Even if you take your converter to a shop to have flushed out (assuming it doesn't need replacing), you could do it for around $200-300 in rebuild kit, gaskets, filter, and new fluid. If you have it rebuilt [correctly] it would be in the area of $750. You can buy a like-new tranny from suppliers for about $2000. If you can do-it-yourself, go that way; at least you will know what you found and what you did. Next choice would be to go to a reputable transmission rebuild place (call some car clubs for recommendations). Also, if you have it rebuilt, let them remove and install the tranny; that way the installation will be warranted also.
